I always thought he was singing “the mood is right,” but I now see that I was mistaken.
I’ve always imagined he’s singing:
“simply halving a wonderful Christmas time,”
…because every time he sings that refrain, the wonderfulness of my Christmas is half of what it was prior. By the end of the song my Christmas wonder has been reduced to an infinitesimal level.
