    America does have more than two political parties. The problem isn’t the number of parties, it’s the FPTP voting system combined with the EC and the lack of proportional representation.

        That’s mostly a side-effect of the voting system though. I don’t think serious candidates are going to run as 3rd party in a jurisdiction where a 3rd party has no chance of winning.

      All of which effectively means that we have two parties, because no serious candidate is going to run outside if those parties when they know the system is engineered to ensure only those parties actually matter.

      As an American and former educator, I can tell you that a large percentage can’t count that high or read anything more challenging than a fast food menu.
