I’ve recently been doing some instant coffee with milk and it is really fucking good. Around February I wanted a bit of a classic snack the way my grandparents would, some sweet bread with instant coffee. So I got myself some. I had forgotten the powdered creamer, so I used milk. I was pleasantly surprised.

    Instant doesn’t taste like “good” coffee, but it does taste good. Especially with a little milk and sugar (or substitutes).

    As someone who just recently started bean coffee I’d say you do you and use what works for you

    You don’t have to conform to certain standards and expect yourself to

    But still instant coffee socks as someone who just recently started using bean coffee

    There is nothing wrong with instant coffee.

    I enjoy dissolving it in a small amount of cold water before adding the hot water.

    For an interesting drink, whisk equal parts cold water, sweetener, and instant coffee until it makes a tan foam (hand brother works great for this) in your mug. Add cold or heated milk and stir.

    I care more about real milk in coffee than the coffee, up to a point - there is coffee so bad it can’t be redeemed. So your powdered creamer offends me more than your powdered coffee, lol. Good instant coffee is probably not past that line. My husband drinks instant coffee, I use his as an ingredient in things but don’t love it as coffee. It’s better than the work pods though.

    AFA sweet bread - I made a sourdough babka this weekend and can most highly recommend this dough for sweet breads, it was amazing. So good my penultimate child (who takes Adderall so not much appetite) took one bite and immediately cut herself three slices.

      I haven’t tried sourdough for my babka, but thanks for the recommendation! That’s a great way to use up some flour before next week. Have you tried using Nutella spread as the filling? That one is very popular in my household haha

    Two scoops hot cocoa powder with one scoop Mount Hagan instant. I call it a Dirt-Bag Mocha. The ingredients sit proudly next to my array of hand pump espresso machines, pour over solutions and variety of delicious beans.

    Single source African light roast, coarse grind, French Press, no milk, no sugar. That is coffee.

    What you have is an ingredient for a custard dessert or a nice addition to a pudding pie.

    Of course, I tease, enjoy what you enjoy. I’m kinda partial to diner coffee, even though it’s bitter and watery and made with the cheapest crap around.

    Edit: I keep instant coffee granules in the house almost at all times. They’re really great for baking, adding coffee flavor to desserts, or, my favorite, in chilis and barbeque sauces/rubs. They’re faster to use and the nuances of great coffee are going to be lost in the cooking process anyway.

        Throw it in with your chili spice blend. It compliments beans, meat and tomatoes pretty well. I tend for “just a touch” in chili, but more in steak and BBQ rubs.

      I swear I have a snobby hand grind and moka pot tho!

      Idk I could swear as a younger adult I just didnt like the instant stuff. So I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it this time around.

      Perhaps the microplastics have clogged my taste buds lol

            It’s definitely more of a thing now. I think Swift Coffee were the ones that I first started seeing everywhere. They produce their own instant coffee as well as partnering with a lot of roasters. The main difference is that they went for the “quality first” as opposed to nestle, et al, who do super high temperature and pressure extractions followed by spray drying for the cheapest end product.

            The downside is that it’s really energy intensive, so it costs like 10x the price. I wouldnt drink it as my daily coffee just because of the price, but it definitely does the trick when I’m traveling to a coffee desert or in the woods.

    Which brand / type was it? By and large instant coffee, pod coffee, etc. Sacrifices a great deal of quality for a small bit of convenience. As these grow in popularity it often feels like it’s further relegating what used to be regular coffee brewing to the niche of the specialty coffee world. Advocates of the speciality coffee movement want to share the joy of elevating coffee from a daily medication to a highly pleasurable and nuanced experience that can be full of variety, and simultaneously respect for the plant and the process of bringing great beans into our home kitchens. If you’ve achieved that realization and it’s just exciting to find a tasty cup of instant coffee, hell yeah, I’d love to hear about it. I don’t want to not know about something good that’s coffee related. If it’s, “hey, I’ve never had a coffee grinder, but I really think instant coffee is great!” well, I’d like to put my arm around your shoulder and have you walk with me down a really exciting rabbit hole.
