Alright everyone! Hope everyone is well!
Following on from the post made around 20 days ago I reached out to the namesake bot owners to ask them if they would mind editing its posting parameters to make it so they post links properly to clean up this sub and make the links appear properly. I have received no response regarding this issue either here or other platforms where I have reached out.
So going forward what would you good people that browse and post to the community like to do?
I can either leave the bots posting as they are or bans the bots with a reasoning in the hope that the bot owners will see the reason and reach out and rectify the issue.
I am going to sticky this thread and I’ll post two comments, one for each option. That way you can just upvote your preferred option. I won’t lock the thread entirely so please feel free to also give your opinion if you’d like.
I’ll leave it up for a week or so to give everyone time to see it and vote before taking any action.
It has now been a week and the consensus seems to be to get rid of the bots. They have now been banned. Thanks for everyone’s input. I’ll leave this post stickied for a few more days so everyone has a chance to see this edit
Also think they do more harm than good by now. Was nice to see some new dnb posts everyday but the messed up links and not being able to reach the ones charge of it, should be enough reason to stop the posts appearing here.
On another note was nice to see the interaction you can get over the fediverse. The posts were made from mastodon into and by adding @[email protected] as a group it popped up here. I guess formatting is a hickup that can happen this way but in general seeing the idea of federation and connection between different servers working is great.
Yes, please ban the bots!
I block every bot I see.
Bots discourage human participation. They may add content, but they don’t cause discussion.
Regardless of the messed up links, I think the bots are bad for the sub in general. They’re consistently the lowest voted posts and add very little to the community, imo.
But I particularly hate the type of tunes they post, so maybe I’m not representative of the community and people would rather have more content rather than less but more curated content.
I would go with banning the bots.
At this point it’s easier to just subscribe to the relevant YT channels. No point to going to Lemmy see mainly their activity (with text URL links and no thumbnails no less).
Nah, keep the bots as they are.
