Explanation: Just a somewhat memetic interpretation of this bas-relief, depicting the Roman Emperor Valerian being captured by the Sassanid Persian King Shapur I. Valerian’s capture was the first time a Roman Emperor had been taken prisoner by any foe, and one of the worst defeats ever suffered by the Empire.
Valerian’s fate thereafter is contested - some say that he was mistreated and humiliated, or killed relatively soon after, others that he lived in relatively good (if unfree) conditions until his natural death.
