Newbie question: is there any benefit of invite only indexers over good (paid) open indexers?

If yes, what is it? Or is “invite only” policy, only a marketing strategy? I just started and I don’t know much but seeing people asking for drunken slug invites makes me want one, even though I have no idea what’s behind those closed doors.
