“We do not do civil detention arrests,” Police Chief Paul Saucier said at the time, reassuring them that they wouldn’t be party to the ICE assault Trump was about to unleash. The police, he said, “do not have the authority to affect a civil arrest.”

What he didn’t say is that if you try to stop the civil arrest, the police will stop you from stopping it.

That is, then, actually doing civil detention arrests by proxy which is functionally the same thing as doing the arrests.

If two people rob a gas station and somehow the clerk dies because a box fell on their head during the robbery … those robbers go down as murderers now.

How is that type of logic not applicable here ?

Because it’s rules for thee, not for me. Always has been.

There are only two ways to hold government criminals accountable: Try to make them accountable to themselves (ha!) or fight back.

Fighting back is not slogans and chanting and human chains, and “making sure people know their rights.” It’s treating illegal armed kidnappers who are going to irrevocably render you without due process to a foreign death camp for what they are: Kidnappers and murderers. Act accordingly.

If you ever wanted to know what it felt like when the Gestapo paid a visit in Nazi Germany, or when the KGB knocked on your door in the USSR, come to America: they have brilliant historical reenactments going on right now!

You are fucking stupid if you don’t think its worse, and will now continue to get worse because Trump was elected.

And your interpretation is the charitable one. I don’t think comments like that are being stupid; I think they’re deliberately trying to minimize and excuse fascism by gaslighting us that it’s how the US was before. Users doing that are trolls spreading disinformation and ought to be banned for it.

Based on his post history, I suspect he’s just genuinely stupid. Of course it is impossible to know. I’ve met people with precisely this attitude. In fact I suspect my sister is one.

That said, you are right. There almost certainly are people gaslighting, manipulating, “hello fellow lefties”/false-flag posting, or at least posting in sufficiently bad faith that there is no meaningful difference.

Hell world is a pretty good description. As can be seen from the events the article is reporting on, organizing and protesting, even at the site of the incident, isn’t going to stop anything. They’re all; federal, local, whatever; a consortium. Good luck to the resistance…

Sooner or later, one of these is gonna result in the death of one of the kidnappers. Things will unravel quickly after that.
