    I don’t get it why D-day is celebrated but the Russian victory over Nazi Germany is not. It was a joint effort at the time.

      I’ve lived in both Eastern and Western Europe.

      The West is full of stories like “and this is where the British and Americans fought and bled for our freedom and liberation”.

      The East is more like “remember when the Russians gangraped Grandma to death, and we had to hide in the swamp from them”.

      The reason it is not celebrated equally is because the Russians were just as bad as the Nazi occupation.

      Celebrated in the US probably. Never seen it celebrated in the EU. I may be wrong though. And why people are now unhappy with Russia… well, read the room.
