It came off as (in a good way) edgy and nuanced back then, but now it just comes off that Mal is a selfish asshole with incredibly flexible morals that are somehow glossed over because “I did it for my crew.” For example: People always like the train job and point to it as an example of how he has a heart of gold, but ultimately he created problem that threatened the community, and his “act of heroism“ was deciding not to do a cruel and criminal act designed to enrich himself. We’re supposed to think that was all OK because he didn’t take a closer look at the crime he was committing? That’s just lack of accountability.
The brown coats also are clearly confederados. I don’t want to glorify people who won’t let go of the US civil war.
Jayne? Disgusting to watch. Especially all that we now know about Baldwin.
And how many times do we have to hear Mal call Inara “whore”?
Those are all good points though I disagree a bit with the brown coats/confederates but I get what you mean.
I think I’ll let that show sit in my memory as it is. Without rewatching any of it I can definitely see the issues. Especially Jayne thinking more on it

Yeah I would say if you ever really want to revisit it, just be very particular about which episodes you watch lol
