The Philip Morris tobacco company is hiring former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, a nonsmoker, for $1 million to serve as its international political consultant, the Sunday Times said.

After electoral defeat, she started a new career. Lobbyist for tobacco companies.

They even paid her birthday party:

Tobacco giant pays for $1m Thatcher bash

Philip Morris’s chief executive, Geoffrey Bible, will chair the dinner. A spokesman for the company said: “Philip Morris is writing the Thatcher Foundation a cheque to cover the cost of the party”

She protected politicians running a pedophile ring:

Yeah, okay. But anger doesn’t make my life better. If I’m browsing this community I expect tips that can potentially improve the quality of my life, not just finding out about more mud on a dead 20th century dirt bag politician to be angry about.

Works both ways though. It was an interesting post and overreacting discourages others from posting when it is difficult to find a place where something fits.

We really need people that post cool or unique stuff far more than we need any unnecessary pedantism. Just because you imagine some specific category of a community does not make that universal by any stretch. This OP is trying to participate in posting with over twice the posts that you have made on this account. I’m an order of magnitude more than them in that regard. Posting is something to value highly from anyone here, narcissistic whining – not so much. I would post a lot more of people were more positive as would many others, remember that. You are either part of the problem or part of the solution, but you are not an exception.

You both make excellent points. I’m on the fence.

Let me put it this way. Lemmy infamously only has four topics that people post about:

          1. Politics
          2. Linux
          3. Star Trek
          4. Porn

Any community that isn’t about topics 2 to 4 will eventually become one about topic 1.

It’s not anger, I know people who praise Thatcher and it is unpleasant. Having one more argument against her in the conversations is a positive improvement on my life.
