Yay, slavery to Windows, sign me up! Now that we’re getting devices running Linux that can do gaming thanks to Valve and Steam/Proton, the last fucking thing in the world I want to do is stay on Windows. I’ve switched literally all my applications to FOSS - games are the sole remaining reason I’ve stayed on Windows for this long. Come October, I’m switching to Linux 100%.

About three years ago I moved my only windows device (for gaming only) to Linux and it was the best thing I ever did. All my development and work machines since 2009 had been on Linux, but my only hold out was my desktop. Proton made it such an easy choice for me. Other than a couple games I played that had anti-cheat that wouldn’t work, it’s been great. And those games I just stopped playing.

I just did it, and even with all the extra setup I’ve had to do (finding a non-browser way to access OneDrive, installing a kernel module due to my Motherboard manufacturer being opaque and unhelpful about a particular chipset, using that module to control fan curves, setting up EQs, etc.), I don’t regret it.

There have been a handful of times I considered going back, but the power to do whatever I want with my system is just too good to give up. I just installed a Gnome extension that let’s me have tiling similar to RiverWM, and just everything I can do that was locked down before is so worth the effort to figure out.

These AI voiceovers are getting to the point that it took a few mispronunciations for me to notice.

after using the steam deck theres literally no way I could go without the trackpads. unless someone comes up with a more natural and faster typing controller mountable kb/m replacement since the trackpads do leave something to be desired there and I still go for the real kb/m if I’m modding a game or doing a lot of work in the terminal. That said the trackpads have been my favourite so far and I really want the steam controller 2 to happen sooner than later.

I’ve been gaming on Linux for two years now. I’ve moved on from Nvidia and purchased two AMD GPUs in that time (5700xt and 7800xt). Now that Nvidia is is also providing better support via their drivers, my desktop sporting the GeForce 3090 will also be moving to Bluefin in October.

I got the same amd cards. 5700xt right before the covid era gpu famine. Both are quite decent for most games.
