Lincoln was truly an exemplary man. He came from humble beginnings, he lived a life of hardship, and he remained a humble man despite of it. As a leader, he led with grace, mercy, and a kindness that’s rare to see in history. He always fought for justice, equality, liberty, and the welfare of the people even if it was unpopular and controversial. He never strayed from what he believed was right, and he did everything in his power to preserve the country and turn it into the ideal version of itself.

The more you look into Lincoln’s life and career, the more you get to grasp the mammoth of a legacy that he left behind. He genuinely deserves all the praise and recognition that he gets. It is sad to think of how the party that he led, the country that he preserved, and the ideals that he fought for are all being eroded away before our very eyes by a man who is the polar opposite of Lincoln.

No one imagined people would be so mercenary as to sell their country and everyone who lived in it for pennies.

Lincoln also advocated for apartheid. Let’s take the whole body of his ideas with a grain of salt in the context of his times and understand many more useful ideas have evolved since then.

He was one of the people who was not only against slavery, but was also in favor of giving freed slaves rights, citizenship, and economic opportunity. He was widely seen as a radically progressive Republican at the time for all of this.

That being said, some things are simply timeless because they’re true, and this is one of them.

I think we can safely agree that the American government and American system is whatever the wealthy owners and corporate overseers want to do with it.

…Which is something that Mr. Lincoln did in fact do, several times. I’m tired of people mostly criticizing Trump on the constitutionality of his actions. It’s a piece of paper. All the monstrous actions of the past were mostly legal. Slavery was legal. Trump’s a monster. Breaking the law is not necessarily immoral, not breaking it is not necessarily good.

    • I think it’s a good thing that Trump hasn’t amended the constitution. That shit would be way harder to fix than just getting rid of this administration and reversing everything they did that was unconstitutional in the first damn place.

They want to redefine who “WE the PEOPLE” represents, and he means for it to mean rich white Republicans and no one else. Maybe a few good old boy Democrats that bow down to the king. This is what they are working towards at the end of all things.
