My fiancé is convinced that his friend absolutely despises him and doesn’t care and my sister is convinced our grandmother doesn’t care about her. I don’t know what to do because they both are insistent this person absolutely hates them and won’t listen to their side, especially my sister. My sister gets verbally violent and angry, and threatens me because she doesn’t wanna hear the other side.

    People in that mindset have their mind set, they just want to hear what they see as validation from you that this person does hate them. They won’t listen to other opinions, their mind is set.

    Don’t try to change their mind, but rather, ask them why they believe that. Talk about their reasoning for holding that position. Point it out gently when their reasons don’t make sense. Ask them “if details were different, would you still believe what you believe?” Ask them what they would need to see to change their mind.
