Mmmmm, Hurricane Season ought to be fun this year, especially since there’s a nonzero chance we won’t have accurate reporting, if any.

I live in the mountains where it’s usually snowing and freezing this time of year. This last week has been basically t-shirt weather. 45°F in the morning and don’t even have to scrap ice off my windshield in fucking February.

The top 20 hottest years ever are from the last 22 years. Can you believe that? What a crazy coincidence. I bet those crazy scientists will try to say that means something but it snowed this winter where I live so.

I’ve started directly questioning the intelligence of people who can’t understand how ocean and air currents work to stabilize polar vortices and disruption of those currents causes disruption of super cold air.

And I have started getting a bit condescending while saying this as if any third grader should understand it so a fully grown adult not understanding it clearly shows some sort of mental deficiency that didn’t get caught earlier in life.

It probably means I’m a bad person but I feel a little satisfaction at their increased anger over just refuting with facts. Because you’re explaining in what sounds like it should be simple ways why they are dumb and the usually slightly narcissistic minds I deal with like this simply cannot handle that.

My mother in law’s rebuttal, after a few days and in text form, was “I DO KNOW all about the science I just don’t believe it’s happening”

And at that point, she has admitted she no longer believes reality.

You can say “I don’t believe it’s raining” all you want, but that water hitting your face won’t be any less wet.

The last few years have been harder than ever to clinge to any spark of hope. It feels so weird to go on business as usual in personal life. But what’s the alternative? Depression won’t save anything or anyone out there. I think I do what I personally can. I don’t think it matters, but what to live for, if not ideals and believes? But the weight of hopelessness grows regardlessly and probably will keep growing.

I don’t write this to get attention or pity or whatever. I write this, because I know countless people out there feel the same. It won’t be fine. But also, you aren’t alone. Living with dignity in a dying world is brutal. Don’t feel too bad about it!
