This just really made my blood boil. How the deputies are taunting this kid with saying stupid shit like “Can we put him down?” “How much for the doggy in the window?” constant taunts about going in a restraint chair. Not only did these braindead idiots taunt and abuse a very vulnerable 19 year old they attempted to keep it hidden for nearly 2 years by not releasing any documents or videos relating to this matter. Below is the contact information for the Washington Township’s administration in Montgomery County, Ohio that is 100% responsible for overseeing every one of their brain dead deputies.

Please tell me there is a lawsuit forthcoming
Don’t you mean paid leave and reassignment to a new police department?
Things like this should be a firing squad not a lawsuit
Lawsuits for change for the better. They both set case president and hold the department liable for damages.
Remember that department liability ultimately just means your tax dollars. The cops don’t pay directly from their salaries, pensions, etc and often their budget is unaffected
It still has a major impact.

Oh I don’t mean to imply that one shouldn’t litigate, to be clear. More that we should push for legislation that cause actual consequences to police who do terrible things, eg they have to pay settlements out of pension funds and/or carry malpractice insurance that they pay for
I work in healthcare. I pay several thousand dollars a year out of my pocket for malpractice insurance so that if I fuck up you can sue me and be paid a settlement that is not covered by taxpayers. I take Medicaid and Medicare so I receive some taxpayer funding like police (not nearly as much) but when I fuck up I have to pay the price. Why shouldn’t they be held to the same standard? We might see some real reforms if their wallets are on the line.
Ending or significantly reforming qualified immunity would also be necessary as that is bullshit
Orrrrrrrrrr burn it all down and start over. Law enforcement in America is rotten
Well I’d prefer if we didn’t burn it all down. That sounds like a lot of death followed by an actual dictator. The US constitution is very powerful and is a great tool for justice.
I think the topic you are looking for is qualified immunity. Most people think it covers police all the time but in reality it only applies to reasonable human errors. There was a court case years ago where a identity twin committed a series of crimes in his brothers name. The innocent brother was arrested and then later tried to sue. The lawsuit wasn’t successful since the police had no way of knowing they had the wrong guy. He was released once they figured it all out and all was good for the most part.
On the other side of the coin, sometimes police can be held liable for negligence if they screw up in a way that isn’t considered reasonable. There was a court case where a women was arrested after getting off a boat and detained for prolonged period of time. The person that was suppost to be arrested was in a totally different state and the officers involved all refused to check the victims ID. She looked nothing like the suspect and was arrested because of some unknown reason. In that case there was grounds for liability because a reasonable person would’ve checked the woman’s ID. I think at the time they just assumed that she had a fake ID even though there was no evidence to support that.
Unfortunately, best it will be a pardon, worst it will be nothing, alongside with some changes in law to allow this even more.
