I got this message today:
We’ve been alerted to activity on your account(s) that is considered breaking Reddit’s rules. We recently found that your (censored) account violated Rule 8 by repeatedly upvoting posts and/or comments that break Reddit’s rule against encouraging or glorifying violence or physical harm. While you didn’t post the rule-breaking content, upvoting content that breaks the rules is also considered a violation. As a result, we’re issuing this warning and asking you to be thoughtful about any future content you upvote. Continued violations could result in a temporary or permanent ban. Please familiarize yourself with Reddit’s rules to make sure you understand the rules for participating on Reddit. This is an automated message; responses will not be received by Reddit admins.
I’m a very non-violent person, but I guess by upvoting comments that say “-F Trump” or “-F Musk” is breaking their rules. That’s such a huge red flag. Now I’m getting warnings about what probably most of the world is thinking? Great policy there, Reddit.
A message to all newcomers from Reddit: you can fucking swear here, please stop fucking self-censoring yourselves.
Like I said, I don’t normally swear. But just for you… FUCK YEAH!!! 😆
That’s the fuckin spirit! Welcome! Fuck yeah!
please remember your local laws and the laws facing your instance provider might not be the same.
Which country’s law prohibits swearing online?
“-F Trump” or “-F Musk”
Bro! This isn’t reddit! Here you can keep things readable so we don’t have to de-asterisk/guess Therefore “Fuck Trump & Fuck Musk” will just do quite well
Well, I don’t swear much either haha.
It’s not mandatory (but it’s allowed)
I find self censorship offensive
I’m in favour of making it mandatory in the context of fucking Trump, fucking Musk and all other fucking facists or fucking fascist-enablers.
It’s okay, and in fact often encouraged to say “fuck you” to Nazis. Give it a try!
Fuck Nazis but also you can say I hope the Nazis are murdered in glorious violence.
Fuck yeah …
Apparently, writing an inspiring post about taking action and ways to protest was just too much for the delicate sensibilities of the internet overlords. I was banned for “inciting violence” and when trying to check their content policy, its conveniently no where to be found.
Who knew that encouraging people to stand up for what they believe in was such a radical concept?
While they hurt countless of lifes and get glorified for who they are, they are trying to silence you for speaking up.
I’m so glad I’ve quit Reddirt back when those API pricing changes happened. Fucking facists.
Welcome to Lemmy, here are a few pointers to help you settle in
What do they expect to achieve with this?
I imagine banning / blocking people whose opinions they don’t like, creating an echo chamber?
One of the most blatant thought policing policies I’ve ever seen. This China or Russia style shit.
Reddit can apparently automagically detect when posts/comments are glorifying violence and detect when users upvote them… Then why aren’t they just removing the “violent” comments? Why leave them up?
We all know why: because Spez is fucking lying.
Yep-- wanna bet this never applies to accounts upvoting “fuck biden” or “let’s go brandon” comments?
Why was I spending so much time reporting sexualized comments about minors for years on that site if they could auto detect things?
Calling something “literall 1984” is trite, I know, but this is pretty damn close to getting charged with wrongthink.
Here on lemmy we say Fuck reddit 👍
