[off topic] When the Bible says ‘don’t take the Lord’s name in vain’ it doesn’t mean that you are damned for cursing. It means that you shouldn’t lie under oath.
“In vain” itself is a weird expression, meaning mostly “to no effect” [0]. So dont invoke God’s judgement unless you’re 100% sure, but its not really clear whether he’ll damn you if you’re not.
It’s basically like saying “I swear to God” and either lying, or using like “I swear to God bro!” which cheapens it.
Jesus fucking Christ. This is a relief to hear.
I think there’s plenty of interpretations of this (as always)
What?? You mean a 5,000 year old book that’s been translated and retranslated eighteen times is ‘open to interpretation?’
and only my version is correct, obviously. /s
Lol. You beat me to it. But lucky for both of us, our beliefs are completely identical.
ok, now how do I add an image, wait, i think I figured it out
Actually made me laugh out loud. Thanks.
Most religion interprets that commandment as “don’t say God unless you’re actually praying to him.”
“Damn” is fine. “God damn” is taking the Lord’s name in vain.
Is ‘damn’ a swear word or is it just the child being cute?
It’s just the child being so damn cute.
I thought it was fucking cute though
Some older people consider it to be.
Some people consider it to be a lighter swear word. Hence the mother not being upset about it.
This gives me Judith from TWD vibes.
Swear words are special words, that you shouldn’t use just any fucking time you feel like it.
My father used to say that using swear words just shows that you lack a decent vocabulary. I have lived by that ever fucking since.
