Call your democratic rep and demand that they insist Schumer resign.

    (202) 224-3121

At this point, I am Not donating a single dollar more to the party. I won’t vote for a democrat at the top of the ticket and will pick a DSA candidate or green candidate. If the democrats aren’t willing to fight for democracy or strengthen it when they’re in power, I won’t reward them with votes.

Every democrat senator needs to be primaried.

I am almost certain that Schumer is being threatened. Not with political consequences, but with actual violence. Maybe against his family. Blackmail at the very least.

I have no love for the man, and while he is a spineless, contemptible coward, something about his sudden reversal on this just doesn’t add up. I think there’s more at play here than the normal Democrat fecklessness. Someone got to him in a way that goes beyond the typical backroom dealings. I’m calling shenanigans.

Not a sudden reversal, this is all what he wants. The idea that these corporate Democrats are against what Trump’s doing is false. Chuck Schumer is perfectly happy with deregulation. He’s perfectly happy with rolling back every bit social quality we’ve established in the last 100 years. All of them are. Neoliberals are 100% okay with Donald Trump.

Except he previously stated his intent to fight, and the rest of the party is absolutely roasting him right now, including some of the most milquetoast centrist Dems. I don’t doubt that he’s a neolib, but something is off. If this was in any way in the interests of neolib Dems, more of them would be falling in line with him instead of allying with Berniebros and tankies to light his ass up, something I thought hell would freeze over before I would see.

Nah, something’s off. Either the rest of the party suddenly grew a spine and some integrity, or someone got to Schumie. The latter is far more likely.

Something’s off? From what? This is what he does. It’s what he’s done for years. Even the timing of a statement a few days ago was on purpose. Designed to make this betrayal even more damaging. To take the legs out of opposition. Not to give the opposition time.

As for interest of the neolibs, winning by a lot of votes isn’t any more valuable than winning by a few. They just need it to pass. If it passes in a way that lets them keep fundraising all the better for them. If it passes in a way that allows them to keep underminding actual opposition to their goals awesome for them.

Just for the record, this is what democrats always do, and it’s why they keep fucking losing.

Democrats would rather have trump than have a social-democratic platform, and it shows every time they have the opportunity to fight him and chose to capitulate instead. The democrats aren’t a left-wing party, certainly not now, and arguably not since FDR.

Perfect encapsulation of the state of the Dem leadership:

“Chuck Schumer caving and saying he’ll vote for a blank check for Trump and Musk is demonstrative of why Democrats lose,” lamented progressive activist and writer Jonathan Cohn. “Voters so often don’t believe what they [Dem leadership] say because they don’t believe what they say.”

Schumer is a traitor, capitulator and collaborator.

his response to ice literally kidnapping a man for speech was three paragraphs of “oh yeah totally fuck him hate how fucking Arab he is” before finally saying “but this might be a little bit wrong? uwu” and asking for reasons rather than fucking demanding he be released immediately.

No. Stop. We don’t need people “speaking up” against folks on our side for making jokes right now. That’s how we got stuck with weak pansies like Schumer.

If someone’s willing to beg forgiveness the moment someone gets offended over one of their jokes, that person’s also going to roll over and capitulate the moment Republicans put any pressure on them.

Start picking and choosing your battles more wisely, Democrats. The guy making bad gay jokes yet still votes Democrat isn’t your enemy. The Republicans trying to erase gay and trans people from existence are.

I swear, you Democrats completely suck at picking and choosing your battles, and that’s part of why you’re stuck with weaklings like Schumer. Do you think someone’s going to have the guts to stand up to Republicans if they grovel and beg for forgiveness the second someone gets offended over a joke they made? Weak.

There’s Republicans out there working to literally erase gay and trans folks from the planet. Those Republicans are the people you need to focus on fighting, not the guy who made a bad joke yet is clearly on our side.

At this rate, maybe AOC or similar will become the democratic candidate in 2028, and basically lead to another Republican landslide. Democrats, at least the politically active ones that would sway these things (not leadership), keep putting a large emphasis on identity politics, political correctness, and a certain ‘victim’ ideology which is out of touch with many of the centrists who ultimately decide the election. Kamela Harris, despite her shifts in policy, is a gauge of this, and yet in these areas she and AOC are nowhere even close, but the AOC-type group is where I see the biggest push among younger democrats. From the point of view of winning a general election, this could be concerning for democrats.

Brother, sister, or other in the current context it’s a clear joke to show who is the “Dominant” and who is the “submissive”. If you understand current social dynamics, youd know that. Now we can have a conversation on if that’s appropriate considering the view is shaped by human histories use of rape as a weapon, especially when subjecting others, but that’s getting so unnecessarily deep. I can just understand this is a joke using modern social dynamics.

Also, I’m Bi. I’ve been with two guys throughout my years. Or do I get to have another conversation on how I’m not actually gay?

…i know? obviously it’s that, nobody was debating that fact. my point is that the automatic agreement that having sex with men makes you submissive is inherently homophobic.

imagine if instead if the insult was like, “he’s such a woman, i bet he loves cooking, cleaning and looking after republicans!”, I imagine you’d correctly interpret the sexism in there. the original message was homophobic in the same way.

and i don’t care how gay you are or aren’t, you have zero authority to tell people that they’re not allowed to find something discriminatory

I mean yeah, that would get the same point across? The specific use of the word woman makes that sexist. So your example is disingenuous. At no time did op call Schumer gay.

Leave out the woman part and it is the same joke, with the same implications, but no sexism. Much like there is no homophobia in the original joke. Understanding social norms and implications isn’t homophobic.

I have every authority to tell you what I find discriminatory. You’re welcome to tell me you feel insulted by what I say, and if we were actually in the real world I would be sure to avoid such jokes around you (if we interacted on a consistent basis). But I’m my circle, this is a nothing burger.

It’s like a Trump supporter would get offended when you make fun of Trump’s tiny hands. Should we do our best to avoid offendeding them? Or are there certain people it’s ok to offend?

Maybe we avoid making the joke because it might offended people with tiny hands? The joke works because it bothers Trump, not because there is anything with tiny hands. But hey just because some people might get upset it’s not an ok joke to use.

This is the Internet. This is a melting pot of different people. I’m not gonna tailor every joke and every response to your sensibilities, or anyone else’s. Grow up.
