I wasn’t active there before that. To me Reddit just got more and more and more annoying over the last few years.

“Recreational” communities were banned, technical communities were flooded with only slightly related nonsense, meme and fun communities felt just dumb. A lot of communities als felt unfriendly and unwelcoming. Not within two days, but it eroded over the years.

At one point it felt like a burden to go through my subscribed communities feed. So I stopped using Reddit entirely during the protests and disabled my account (and it wasn’t re-enabled by Reddit to prevent loss of users) and I do not miss it one single second.

During web research I sometimes get a Reddit result. I change to old.reddit.com URL (I have a strict ruleset regarding cookies and JS and the normal Reddit is just shows an error message and I am not willing to change my configuration) to get the information, but that’s it. Neither do I interact with anything nor do I use any type of account.

In your experience of use, has Arch been stable in its operation?

I use Arch since 2008 on multiple laptops and desktop PCs as well as multiple servers and it is the host system for my Docker-based selfhosting environment.

I never had any real issues.

I never looked into flatseal and I don’t have any issues with Steam. But I wonder if flatseal can allow a Flatpak Java application to run systemctl poweroff.

LLMs bullshit all the time

Bullshitting to me is giving intentionally wrong statements. LLMs do not generate intentionally wrong statements. Saying they do, means that you imply intelligence.

LLMs know nothing nor are they intelligent. They also are not right or wrong, they generate output based on statistics.

“Hallucination” as a term for “AIs” making things up is used since the early 2000s (even if it’s meaning has changed since then).

Of course is the term stupid. Neither is an LLM an AI, nor is any AI in the current state intelligent. In the end it all boils down to being answer machines. Complex ones, but still far away from anything even remotely being am AI.

It’s not a “fancy word” here, but a technical term. An AI making things up is actually called hallucination.

If you’re on a small budget, look for older ThinkPad laptops, you can get them for good prices and in good condition and Linux works very well on them.

For mid-range try to find an older Dell XPS 13, they sold those as certified Linux devices nicknamed “Developer Edition” and with an Ubuntu LTS version preinstalled. I have one of those and I run Arch on it. It runs perfectly fine. Also: superb build quality! It’s a very great device.
