@CrowyTech feels like we’ve spent years and still nobody in parliament understands tech or even why they *should* understand it.
Mostly a lurker.
I read books to pay the bills.
She/her/they
@CrowyTech feels like we’ve spent years and still nobody in parliament understands tech or even why they *should* understand it.
@CrowyTech yep. Not sure about the Greens, too - they’re pushing for Customs Union and opposing divide and rule at least. But not much voice in parliament.
@CrowyTech my MP is LD so she’ll probably say “yes, I agree they should, aren’t they awful” and that’ll be it. But I might give it a go.
@CrowyTech @RubberDuck UK Gov are still flipping posting on Twitter.
@Dagwood222 @Fredthefishlord I mean it’s stupid that it was even close, but Dubya’s brother stole the election for him. Pretty much accepted fact now that if the recounts had actually been allowed then Gore would have won. US elections are awful. https://youtu.be/jucDFrO89Ko
@FilthyHookerSpit @Freshparsnip the thing I find weird is that not a single county flipped red to blue, but 88 flipped blue to red. Just demographic changes would usually mean one almost-blue changes hands. All one way hasn’t happened since Hoover, so you’d think, from that, that Trump had a MASSIVE margin.
@ToadOfHypnosis or out of a window
@Maiq @silence7 I still don’t get it. You’d think that even a Russian asset, as a malignant narcissistic demagogue, on becoming president of the largest economy in the world with the most powerful army, would just go ‘actually f*** you, I’m a bigger deal than you now, and your army and economy have both been ripped to shreds since I last got booted out anyway.’ Like, why’s he reducing the power/influence of the US and therefore his *own* power?!
@TwinTitans ah ok I see. Thought you were saying 5 years was a *long* time!
@TwinTitans @MicroWave I mean I get your point. But how long do you expect a car to last in the US? We have one car and it’s a 2012 reg that we bought secondhand in 2018…
@OutlierBlue @Chainweasel the rich have forgotten they should vote for social safety nets because otherwise the poor have nothing to lose.
@raef @thefluffiest Pretty sure ChatGPT went down a list according to trade ratios:
@futatorius @drkt_ basically every (successful) safety feature in anything is an example of designing away stupid (plenty of examples where it designs *in* stupid too, though). And just as important, designing away tired/distracted. Everyone makes mistakes, even when they’re not idiots. It’s this isn’t it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchy_of_hazard_controls
@Eheran @RaoulDook no. Didn’t get 50% of the vote. Only 1.7% margin vs Harris. 11th smallest margin ever (including 5 negative, eg 2016).
When he claims a landslide it’s because he wants to claim he has a mandate.
TBH the numbers are really weird. Getting that small a margin but winning every swing state is not likely. And every county that flipped, flipped one way to him, which hasn’t happened since Hoover. Again, on that margin that’s quite the feat.
@Eruanna amazing! And you thought you’d be the only one - I think this is the importance of these - people are realising they’re not alone, just because Fox keeps telling them they are
@Eruanna @Elkot I’ve been following the #TeslaTakedown stuff with interest - some of the protests seem to be enormous. Hopefully it is inviting people to dip their toe in the water, meet some fellow pissed off people, start organising, be visibly against what’s happening… It all matters.
@henfredemars @ObviouslyNotBanana at that point the military would surely drag him out because it would officially be a coup, so they’d be bound to do it. And no, putting Pete Hegseth in charge doesn’t mean he’s suddenly captured the whole military. He hasn’t even managed to kick out any LGBTQ+ people yet.
@k0e3 @Wanpieserino depends on the type, but in Europe it’s only legally an ebike if the battery only assists pedalling - no throttle, no working if you’re not pedalling - and cuts out after 15.5mph/25kph (anything more is a motorbike). So it takes the edge off hills, helps at junctions etc, but you’re still going to have to work while on it. https://www.bikeradar.com/advice/fitness-and-training/electric-bike-fitness
Also it takes away that initial “ugh I can’t be bothered, I’ll drive” so you end up cycling more in general.
@Boddhisatva @vividspecter there was massive voter suppression this election. It’s been mounting for ages but even worse this time. Loads of mail-ins chucked out; bomb threats; voter roll purges. A lot of people tried to vote (or even now, think they did) but were turned away or their votes weren’t counted. Even on those numbers, things look sticky for Trump. https://www.gregpalast.com/trump-lost-vote-suppression-won/
@longjohnjohnson @MicroWave isn’t everyone else still on 10% too?!
