I’m in a similar boat. I always disable this feature.
But I’m also pretty good at avoiding junk mail or unsubscribing from newsletters. So I guess I’m not the target user for such a feature.

I remember trying to move to Mastodon years ago. But the main topics in my feed were furries, transgenders and activists.
Not hating on any of those, but it just wasn’t what I was interested in at the time, so I quit the whole microblogging thing altogether and spent more time on Reddit.

Get a custom domain so that your new email address isn’t tied to Proton. If Proton goes to shit it will be much easier to just take [email protected] with you to your new email provider. I wish I had done this with Gmail so that it would’ve been easier to move to Proton.
