I expect it’s at the behest of the oil industry anyway, gotta keep consumption as high as possible.
Brought to you by my conspiracy theory, which seems very plausible given oil companies’ history.

I’ve been rather turned off by Anzac Day growing up, since it’s felt more and more the narrative has turned to “mateship” and how heroic the ANZACs were, instead of the reality which is that Australians were sent into the meat grinder by the British Empire (which in fairness, I was taught at school), and that war is hell, and we ought to do everything we possibly can to avoid it.
That all being said, excluding more modern veterans is total bullshit and anyone suggesting modern veterans are any less deserving are being dicks*. And I say this as someone very critical of Australia’s involvement in America’s imperialist invasions.
It’s not our soldiers fault they were sent. They’re the ones who actually had to endure the trauma of war, not Howard, who sent them.
Really hope all veterans in good standing can take part in any march they desire.
*Criticising the military in general, and specific soldiers/units who engaged in war crimes is fair game, in my opinion.
Next thing you’re gonna be telling us is to bring back public servant building surveyors as the only building surveyors, to stop the conflict of interest that the builder paying the inspector directly causes.
Bloody madness, clearly the private market is more efficient /s
Our housing regs are a joke since they’re not even well supervised
The exception here being teal independents who vote with the Libs, as the colour name suggests, they’re not for workers. The only difference is that they believe in climate change and are not as socially conservative.

Really, this level of anger is wildly unhealthy.
My original comment was exaggerated, but essentially the same.
I haven’t been on Reddit in years
You’re very grumpy, hope you’re going alright mate, I shall leave you to it.
Not one, not every, not anywhere.
You have lowered my bar for success, challenge accepted (should I remember the next time I encounter one in the wild).
And jeez, sorry for apologising, I guess?
I don’t think it’s a straw man to say there are many people out there who look at countries that hold or held the banner of communism or socialism through extremely rose tinted glasses, and many of them are on Lemmy.ml
Annoys me because I’m a socialist (in my eyes) and think these people detrimental to convincing others of socialism’s merits.
Anyway, challeng accepted, mr grumpy pants.
UwU
I think you’ll find there are numerous comments around Lemmy with this sentiment.
To be fair, it’s not everyone on .ml, but damn, it is a lot
And apologies for taking it out on yourself, that wasn’t cool of me
I’m still really unsure why some socialists have decided that because China carries the flag of socialism, that it means they’re automatically good at everything, ever. And everything bad about it is western propaganda.
I’m a socialist, hell, I even like China in many regards, much more than many of my fellow Australians.
But damn, why so many people on Lemmy.ml stanning for them? Makes no sense.
That being said, much of the infrastructure they have, is indeed nice (all the massive amounts of coal we sell them, notwithstanding).
But there are a bunch of inefficiencies and issues.
Ya know, like any other country.
China isn’t a utopia, it’s a place, with good and bad points.
Why is the right wing constantly searching for some outrage to manufacture? It’s been their playbook now for like 150 years, at least.
Huge cars with terrible visibility should have been outlawed ages ago anyway. There’s no good reason for someone’s bonnet to come up to my shoulders on a fucking ute.
There’s a reason why the road toll is going UP per capita in the US.
As much as it sucks for the Americans, there is a small part of me that’s happy about Trump shooting themselves in their own collective foot, because maybe we’ll consider diversifying our alliances a little. Instead of being America’s little laptop.
I LOVE they had to add the authorisation at the end because of electoral laws haha
