I wouldn’t say this is an insane take from that person, or misandrist really. I have no other meanings in regards to what that person says, but in this case this is a sensible take.
The whole meme is about how women are “hysterical” and overly emotional. While men are calm and chill creatures.
It caters to stereotypes that view women in a negative light. I know exactly zero women who act like this. Most women are calm and chill people as well. Unless you of course call them hysterical or overly emotional, then they can rightfully get a bit mad. You would probably react that way also. It kinda infantalizes you.
I would as a man, expect my best friend to tell me if he’s moving, expecting a child, or is getting married, within a reasonable timeframe. That is within a couple of months.
I wouldn’t mind microtransactions, gacha games and gacha mechanics if there were sane upper limits to spend.
I was trying to learn how different gacha games work and monetization in f2p games in general, especially obes for smartphones.
I was surprised about how similar all the methods across games are. Some were a lot worse than others though.
I think the monetization method is sometimes viewed as acceptable by some, because the games often have a lot of content and can be a lot of fun to play. The thing I really dislike is that it’s unfairly monetized. Some people pay the majority of the income, they are also known as whales. There are of course some people that spend small sums, but the whales is where it is at.
After Arcade games went out of fashion we had a nice long period in which players paid about the same for a game, and got the same experience.
Now vulnerable people are paying more than they can afford to finance the game for everyone, and still everone gets a limited experience.
Some of the games I enjoyed the most had terrible gacha mechanics. One of them had items and mounts with 1/500 chance per pull. Of course it is designed so that it appears as 1/10, but it is really 1/500. To justify this they had the PITY system. Yes, thats the actual name of it. The pity system makes it so that after buying 500 pulls ypu are guaranteed the mount.
The price for 500 pulls? 500$
After the free pulls you could play to get, about 480$.
So I actually can’t get the entire game for even 500$…
That was just one of many such instances. I could probably spend more than 10 000$ and still not unlock absolutely everything.
Was it purely cosmetic? Nope. It gave an advantage too.
Legislation that effectively adds an upper limit to unlock the entire game with a sensible maximum monthly cost for new content, is needed in my opinion.
He’s from Venezuela not El Salvador. It is not deportion, this is taking a vulnerable innocent asylum seeker and placing him outside of the law in a inhumane concentration camp. The law can no longer reach him!
This is why its not just a bad prison, recommended read: https://www.hrw.org/news/2025/03/20/human-rights-watch-declaration-prison-conditions-el-salvador-jgg-v-trump-case
Haha, what is this from?
Of course, but we are as a society so far away from that. It requires a bigger cultural shift than we are anywhere near. Even the thought of an inheritance tax is very unpopular.
Yes, even as a very social democratic country with a highly educated populace, we can be pretty stupid about taxes.
Also most really rich people have their wealth in assets and make their money as gains on those assets. So it does not really tax the most important people, except maybe some C-suites.
This is in Norwegian, but most services is based on this number https://www.nav.no/grunnbelopet
Which currently is 124 028 NOK which is roughly 10 350 euros.
This number is referenced as G (Grunnbeløpet)
So for instance if I lose my job I can get up to 62.4% of a salary up to 6G. Which is the maximum.
Meaning the maximum payout is 744 168 (6G) * 0.624 = 464 360 NOK.
We have tons of calculations like this for all sorts of welfare services.
Every year in may this number is adjusted.
Everytime I hear arguments against wealth tax, gift tax, property tax or inheritance tax. It’s the same argument, it’s unfair towards the people who has worked all their life and want to leave their already taxed money to their family.
In Norway we have no inheritance tax and no tax on gifts. Most people have no taxes on homes either. We do have some wealth tax.
My main issue with the arguments against it is that its is lacking imagination. We make the rules, we can decide to make it fair. We can set a limit for when taxation occurs at a really high number. Just so that 98% of Norwegians get zero taxes on these things.
Zero taxes for inheritance up to 1 000 000 euros and then 75% on every euro above. Is possible.
Zero taxes on gifts up to 50 000 euros a year is possible.
No taxes on homes worth less than 1 000 000 is possible.
Bringing wealth with you when you permanently move out of the country is possible for values less than 5 000 000 euros for instance.
Then adjust for inflation every year (like we do with many of our welfare systems)
If we do this we can get rid of the wealth tax that the rich hate so much (because they are disadvantaged owners compared to owners of businesses in other countries)
No regular people will feel these taxes at all, and they make sure that the wealth is distributed over time. It’s still possible to get rich, and remain rich. But your children can be rich but not insanely rich.
Exactly what the rates should be is up for debate, but this system is in my opinion a better one.
Thanks for clearing up the facts around this. I updated my comment above.
This seems like an attempt to undermine NATO. The only time article 5 has been used was after 9/11.
By saying Europe had a choice and should have resisted, he lays the foundation for the US to not follow through on their NATO commitments.
Edit: The commenter below is right, the article 5 was used for Afghanistan, not Iraq. My whole argument is thus invalid
What if the plan was to have twins?
I think I kinda get what you mean. It’s so backwards that it is still necessary and that it is still a fight that has to be “won”. Personally I am not bothered or in any way opposed to gay rights, trans rights etc. so I personally do not need “convincing”. But I am not everyone. There are many parts of society that have little to no respect for LGBTQIA+.
In Norway a pretty liberal place, most of the population support gay rights, but there are especially a large portion amongst certain religious and minority groups that do not approve.
The fight is not over. It is not equally acceptable to be gay as hetero, or trans as cis. The fight is not over in most of the world.
Even in one of the most liberal countries in the world it is not actually equal.
The US has in a couple of months launched numerous attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community, and by protesting / marching we support those that need it. We show that they are not alone, and that those outside the community also protect them and wish them well.
I am personally a cishet man, but I also march with my wife. It takes maybe a couple of hours of my life every year, and it means a lot to the community to have all the support it can get.
I encourage you to participate as well. If not, consider staying neutral or verbally supportive. Your comment makes it seem like you disregard their continued struggle, but I think you are just trying to convey that it’s absurd that its still necessary, which I agree that it is 😊
Fantastic game, recommend all their Metro games.
This is not financial advice, I am a regular guy, not a professional or someone working with finance. Not licensed etc. If you lose everything by following anything I mention, it’s your responsibility.
I only buy passive and not actively managed funds. This is to keep the costs low. A passive fund costs anywhere from 0.1 to 0.3% each year. This is important, because that cost has to be paid every year of the total sum no matter the performance of the fund (in most cases). So low costs is important.
I usually buy a cheap index that tracks MSCI ACWI which is All Countries World Index.
By tracking it means that it buys and sells stocks to keep the holdings the same as that referance index.
MSCI ACWI is very popular as it tracks the entire world more or less. Including emerging markets.
As a Norwegian there is “Storebrand Alle Markeder” which I buy. For MSCI ACWI
But for Europe there is MSCI Europe Index, where I buy DNB Europe Indeks which tracks that.
So first check your current banks offerings, search for Europe and see what reference index they follow. Check other banks as well and see if they have lower costs for the same reference index.
I just want to mention an additional point just in case you are not aware. You should never time the market or try to be smart. There are exceptionally talented and intelligent people with the best tools in the world that you are trying to beat. You will lose sooner or later, but you might be lucky a few times. I recommend that you read about “The efficient market hypothesis”. I base all my investments on that principle.
Make sure you use tax efficient accounts if there is something like that in your country. So that you can sell and buy stocks without triggering taxes. So that the only time you have to pay taxes is when you take it out of the account.
Also, diversification is important. So make sure to diversify properly. That’s why I buy ACWI most of the time. Also make sure you have a long term view on your investments. You should be able to let the money stay in the market for an absolute minimum of 5 years
I am just a regular guy, and not an expert and not a trader or licensed or anything. I just put my savings in the stock market every month. So take everything with a large scoop of salt. This is not financial advice.
Not buying US for a while. 60% exposure is already too much.
Buying European until my portfolio is 30% European. Then I will buy global index funds again, preferably a mix that excludes the US. Don’t want more than 20-30% in US stocks. The political risk is too high in my opinion
I do the same 😄
I was locked outside of the house for long periods of time and had to drink from the garden hose / garden faucet, and pee in the bushes. We also had like 10+ apple trees. It wasn’t that bad. A bit boring sometimes.
But that’s because it was outside and I could get my needs covered and meet friends.
Locked inside without these needs covered for extended periods is a lot worse in my opinion. Even cats and dogs have those needs covered.
It’s also about the lack of freedom when locked inside.
I would not treat my own children like I was treated, and especially not like you were.
Free as in freedom, not only free as in beer. That is how FOSS works. Also one of the things I find appealing about it.
By focusing on FOSS being this super serious thing, we kinda lose what is great about it. Everyone is welcome and free to use it as they see fit. That is by design (see licenses). A lot of FOSS is passion projects by people on their spare time, they do it because it is fun / fulfilling. We need all hands on deck, and FOSS should also be playful, experimental, and novel. FOSS is this super idealistic gift to humanity, from humanity. Every piece of FOSS software contributes to the collective human database of ideas and software.
The “us reasonable users” is a really unfortunate way of sharing your opinion on this matter. Is it unreasonable to be a femboy and use FOSS/Linux? By being elitist like this, I kinda get the same reaction you claim to get from this user. I don’t want to be clumped in with the users that feel they are superior to everyone else and acting like it, and gatekeeping the FOSS community and its representation.
