I wish these guys would realize that while powerful, the US cannot just exist in a vacuum. We all share this planet and limitless greed is not gonna get you anywhere. I really hope the US product / services boycotts are gonna have an impact.

Yeah, right? The only thing I miss here are highly specific communities. But then again I might create them myself at some point
Knowing some of these higher ups myself, I‘m pretty sure most of them cannot tell great quality from garbage and do not care about good products. It’s only ever about the short term numbers.
I‘m sure the Playstation also has a horrible internal model name. It would be necessary to distinguish different variants.
The reason people use Electron in the first place is that they wanna share a codebase between web, desktop and possibly mobile.
While Flutter can technically do that, the web apps it outputs are atrocious with poor usability and accessibility. It’s drawing the whole UI on a canvas element which causes all kinds of issues.
For anyone considering Electron: take a look at Tauri. It’s another way to build cross-platform apps with web tech. It will use the OS‘s web rendering engine instead of shipping Chromium which results in much smaller binaries and faster startup times and less RAM usage. You can also write native code in Rust. It’s like Electron but good.
His X bio is also amazing:
I turn your app ideas into SaaS MVPs fast using AI & 12+ years of dev experience, helping you make passive income. DM me to get started and launch your MVP!
He‘s fishing for that zero passion passive income bubble that thinks it can become rich by doing nothing except giving random gurus money.
Well, everyone who’s coding their websites is, yeah. Seeing how almost 10% of all websites use Elementor now and are built by people without an understanding of coding concepts, there are probably plenty of websites that don’t output their copyright year dynamically.
What do you use for the icons? Are they vector images?
Facebookification should be a term. I think every platform that tries to grow at any cost will attract a certain audience that will ultimately make the platform less desirable. Like those spamming pins in facebook comments to get updates on the post instead of turning on updates in a context menu.
My town has one of the oldest underground wine cellars in Europe with some bottles up to 300 years old. I talked to somebody maintaining the wine cellar and part of the cork replacement procedure that happens about every 50 years is to taste the wine - just a drop though. Apparently it’s pretty awful. His colleague said “You have to taste your way up to one of these!” which sounds like bullshit to me. I bet it doesn’t get better after 1700 more years.
Towards whatever Communityplanners on meth that did this: Fix this shit!
The city planner: „What do you mean? This intersection is just fine. I drive my car through it every day.“
Coding is pretty much the only way to make a site that is both flexible and fast. If you wanna stay with page builders, I’d recommend something like webflow or framer but going with these closed systems is really not that amazing longterm. You’re gonna sink a lot of money into a system that will almost certainly enshittify in the future.
If you’re willing to pick up coding, try to make your own theme with something like Advanced Custom Fields in wordpress or switch to something like Kirby CMS which is more flexible out of the box than wordpress and has great docs.
I agree. I don’t hate wordpress. It seems a bit dated by today’s standards and bloated in some aspects but you can definitely make a solid, fast website with it. It’s getting a bad reputation for its toxic plugin dev scene and crappy sites built using Elementor.
oh boy, the average wordpress site has like 30 plugins and the top bar is getting cluttered with so many plugin upsells that it fills the whole screen. There’s a huge industry of people making wordpress sites who shouldn’t.
It’s quite frustrating to be asked as a dev to “fix” people’s site as my usual response is “shut it off and redo it well”.
Scaled is really good on lemmy for my taste at least
