  • And right so! Indecence is the root of all evil. The world wouldn’t be the rot it is if only people were wearing decent bathing suits. Not even parliamentarians, judges, priest, military and police are wearing decent bathing suits. Look at the outrageous rags they actually are wearing. Have you ever seen cops in bathing suits beat up innocents? Military in decent beachwear commit atrocities? Judges in half-legged nylon sentencing people to death? No, no and no! I demand decent bathings suits for everyone!

  • How would you fuck up your machine by installing packages? Hell, get a reasonable package manager and package installation frontend (and a reasonable brain between your ears if that’s the problem). I can’t see how anyone might get their machines into an useless or unbootable state considering that any useful package manager (even minimalist ones like aptitude or blank apt-get) will inform you what it’s going to install and unistall. If I see, that my choice is going to remove the complete DIE I am using plus X, or even GRUB, I lknow there’s something wrong with my selection and abort.

If you can’t play, let your gear speak for you. Don’t replicate the boring pissing contests of r/guitar or r/synthesizer where 90% of the posts were “collectors” showing off gear they can’t play. Consumerism and enthusiasm are different things.

  • Banks’s first SF novel - pretty good though I didn’t find the main character especially likable.

LOL. I don’t think the main character was meant to be likeable at all. Killing your sandbox friends and… uh, the rest of the story is as complicated as it is perverse… whatever, it’s certainly not a “likeable” or even remotely reproducable thing. It’s at best a hint of the main character being batshit crazy. Consider Phlebas, BTW, is widely considered Bank’s weakest SF novel which doesn’t mean it’s bad but that the rest of his work was a lot better. Anyway, I think if you liked Gibson you’ll hardly dislike Banks.
