Since we’re simply talking about being unpowered for a while, wouldn’t a simple full format fix/reset all ECC errors? No need to scrap the drive.

Anyways, HDD for 6-24 months offline data storage, SSD for always-online data storage, and flash if you’re a masochist like me.

I’d love to see a modern mmofps, I can’t think of anything coming close to Planetside on that front.
That said, I mostly did TR flash zergs when running solo, and VS C4 fairies when my friends were online.
We all kinda dropped the game after the Combined Arms Initiative was rolled out and removed the need for vehicles, as heavies were stronger than MAXes and could solo pretty much all armor without breaking a sweat, and we could break up a hours-long tank line stalement using a sunderer and 3 Archer-equipped engineers. (Multiple tanks and some infantry peeled off to stop us, but we could kill pretty much anything with 2-3 salvos, usually before they found us. The sunderer was mostly just to get there).
Most definitely, but the leeches still get a higher pay than they usually would - until the union collapses.
I do not trust cyclists around vehicles either. I hope everyone can agree for better cycling roads, separated from motorized vehicle roads.

Det bliver lige nu diskuteret i EU. Her har et mindretal af lande i længere tid blokeret for et forslag, hvor chattjenester bliver pålagt at screene beskeder for såkaldt CSAM-materiale.
Efter to et halvt år med tovtrækkeri har Polen, der har EU-formandskabet i øjeblikket, fremsat et nyt revurderet forslag med fokus på frivillighed.
Ved det seneste rådsmøde i december 2024 var blandt andet Polen selv imod forslaget. Beslutter de sig for at godkende, og alle andre beholder deres nuværende position, vil forslaget gå videre i processen.
I det nye forslag fra det polske EU-formandskab er end-to-end blevet undtaget, hvilket betyder, at brugere kan sende beskeder i fred.

Han er en af underskriverne bag et brev til justitsministeren, der understreger, at den masseovervågning, CSAM lægger op til, er ude af proportioner og underminerer befolkningens ret til privatliv.

Da Polen modsagde det tidligere forslag, lagde de også vægt på, at man tidligere havde oplevet på tæt hold, hvad det betyder, hvis krypteringer brydes.
CSAM er blevet diskuteret på både europæisk og nationalt plan, efter at tidligere kommissær for indenrigsanliggender, Ylva Johansson, gik i kamp mod børnemisbrugsmateriale og grooming i 2022 med CSAM-fordringen.
Som en del af CSAM blev det foreslået at indføre såkaldt chatkontrol, der skulle pålægge beskedtjenester og teleudbydere at scanne for misbrugsmateriale som et centralt våben mod bagmændene.
Men da flere nationer mente, at chatkontrollen brød mod centrale privatlivsrettigheder, stemte de imod forslaget.
Især at forslaget lagde op til, at end-to-end-krypterede beskeder også skulle screenes, faldt mange for brystet.
Dette er blevet gjort op med i det nye forslag, og det skal diskuteres i Det Europæiske Råd i midten af juni i år. Stemmes det igennem, skal det videre til trilogforhandlingerne mellem Rådet, Parlamentet og Kommissionen.

Haven’t read the article yet so please excuse my ignorance, but wouldn’t driving the pillars for the foundation into the sediment produce infrasound? And once the turbine is running, it’s hard to imagine such a large device to not cause any kind of sub 20Hz vibrations. After all, you can usually hear (and sometimes feel) them when standing close by the mills on land.
Though, whether the infrasound is loud enough to be a problem is questionable.
I had quite some beef with the tethered caps in the beginning when they didn’t latch properly, but have since gotten used to them. That said:
Obviously not much of a problem. I’d need to clean my facial hair either way if eating ice cream or other messy foods, but cap rotation might not be effective if your “face” sticks out 1-2cm from your mouth.
One could also attempt to rotate the cap in a way to achieve quantum tunneling, but I don’t feel that I’ve achieved that level of “tethered cap proficiency” yet.

Yup, our everybody’s dear Ursula. I realize that Europe has many institutes and multiple unions, but I feel that the EU best represents Europe as a whole. And, of the multiple bodies the EU is made of, the European Commission often lays face to news and is said to hold the most “power”.
Yes, the USA is a master of making itself seem much more powerful and important than it really is, and what do news outlets love more than painting the devil onto the walls? Denmark living in the USA’s pocket doesn’t help much either.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if more Europeans know the presidents of China, Russia, and the USA than know the name of our own European prime minister, which would be pretty sad if actually true.
Of course it’s important to know what other countries are up to, and the EU is currently reliant on the USA for conflict handling (please make a joint European army), but unless you plan to intervene then I see no reason to fanatically follow their politics. Just tell me whether we’ll have to deal with some ancient inept dude, or another ancient inept dude who has managed to weaponize incompetence.

I’m vaguely aware that the USA is gearing up for another political tragedy, but who, living outside of the USA, actually follows that stuff? Can’t influence the outcome much either way if you can’t vote, except perhaps by spreading propaganda.

EndeavourOS is pretty neat. I use it on my main rig where I run updates at least once a month, since it gets unruly if not updated regularly. Also, yay and the AUR is absolutely wonderful. No more scavanging the net for rogue .deb or appimages.
I use Mint on any mobile - or less often used - PCs since it doesn’t care if I don’t update it for 2 years, and it’s default settings are decent.
And yeah, Debian for servers with BorgBackup (encrypted, and the deduplication+compression is insane) through SSH with a systemd service. It’s just set and forget. I update them whenever I remember, and stability appears close to unparalleled.
