I appreciate what you’re saying, however:
Women are, regardless of any other stat, still under-represented. 2000-2009 is depressing.

R6 Siege, Apex Legends, PUBG, Insurgency Sandstorm (which seems to be an off/on thing from the descriptions.)
Nice knowing you, Winnipeg
Was it, though?
(I kid, <3 The 'Peg)
Thanks for posting this, I didn’t realise how many of my most played games have issues, or are unplayable, according to Proton DB. I forgot that it was effectively impossible to play a huge number of multiplayer games with anticheat/whatever stuff.
Again though, appreciate it!
People are falling for Chinese Propaganda, sadly.
She was a massive thorn in the side of the Soviet Union, and both the CCP and Russia are terrified of her.
Freeland studied Russian history and literature at Harvard University.[18] During 1988–89, she was an exchange student at the Taras Shevchenko State University of Kyiv in Soviet Ukraine, where she studied Ukrainian, which she is fluent in.[20] While there, she worked with journalist Bill Keller of The New York Times to document the Bykivnia graves, an unmarked mass grave site where the NKVD (the Soviet secret police) disposed of tens of thousands of dissidents.[1] The official Soviet story held that the graves were the result of Nazi atrocities. She translated the stories of locals who had witnessed covered trucks and “puddles of blood in the road” that predated the Nazi invasion, adding evidence that the site was actually the result of Stalinist repression.[1]
While there she attracted the attention of the KGB, which tagged her with the code name “Frida”, and Soviet newspapers, who attacked her as a foreigner meddling in their internal affairs over her contacts with Ukrainian activists. The KGB surveilled Freeland and tapped her phone calls, and documented the young Canadian activist delivering money, video and audio recording equipment, and a personal computer to contacts in Ukraine. She used a diplomat at the Embassy of Canada in Moscow to send material abroad in a secret diplomatic pouch, worked with foreign journalists on stories about life in the Soviet Union, and organized marches and rallies to attract attention and support from Western countries. On her return from a trip to London in March 1989, Freeland was denied re-entry to the Soviet Union.[21] By the time her activism within Ukraine came to an end, Freeland had become the subject of a high-level case study from the KGB on how much damage a single determined individual could inflict on the Soviet Union; a 2021 Globe and Mail article quoted the report by a former officer of the KGB, which had described Freeland as “a remarkable individual”, “erudite, sociable, persistent, and inventive in achieving her goals”.[21]
It doesn’t help that we won’t elect a woman though, or basically anyone who isn’t a white man. I say all of this as an NDP voter, she would make me consider an ABC vote.
Nah, because that’s just Antisocial Personality Disorder, which basically boils down to trusting your own judgement over society’s.
I am not here to attack people with Antisocial Personality Disorder, but it’s definitely not just ‘trusting your own judgement over society’s’, it also " is a personality disorder defined by a chronic pattern of behaviour that disregards the rights and well-being of others." The ‘societal judgment’ they’re in conflict with is often the rights and well-being of others. I have an ex with it, and they had an extremely difficult time up until their early 40’s, when they did improve a bit. We’re still not sure if that’s ASPD decreasing over time, or them getting used to dealing with it.
Again though, this isn’t to attack people with it (who will suffer far more at the hands of others than themselves) but to hand-wave it as ‘trusting your own judgment over society’s’ is… not accurate. From your own link:
People with antisocial personality disorder tend to purposely make others angry or upset and manipulate or treat others harshly or with cruel indifference.
Feeling no guilt about harming others.
Doing dangerous things with no regard for the safety of self or others.
I say all of this as someone who lived with someone else with ASPD. The one that caused our breakup was “Aggression toward people and animals.” as they hurt me and attempted to hurt our cat in order to hurt me emotionally. This was a reaction caused by PTSD from their truly traumatic childhood, but I’d appreciate it not boiled down to some sort of Chaotic Good interpretation.
If the people on lemmy constantly (CONSTANTLY) talking about how small/badly timed/ineffective/waste of time these were actually went to them, or set up their own, man what a sight that would have been.
But no, go to work, that’ll save you next month when ‘people who use leftist platforms’ are put in camps instead of immigrants.
But Is anyone else mildly anxious that JD Vance’s hero, Curtis Yarvin, suggested in 2022, that all Trump needs to do is declare a state of emergency to extend executive immunity to prosecution, and to do it early on? So far, project 2025 combined with the manifestos of Dark Gothic Tech Bros are aligned.
Okay, what about …
Look, I know you’re in your young 20’s, almost definitely white, definitely a man, and I was once each of those things, too.
You’ve gone down the Right-wing pipeline, you’ve nodded along, you’ve downed the kool-aid. From the sounds of it a light sprinkling of an extremely flawed, right-wing education system.
You are not experiencing your own thoughts. You’re regurgitating arguments you’ve heard online; over and over again, you say the same things, respond in the same way, make the same mistakes. You hamfistedly wave at anyone who ever called themselves socialist and go ‘see! look at these mistakes! They’re all the same!’ When in reality:
Although the emergence of the Soviet Union as the world’s first nominally socialist state led to widespread association of socialism with the Soviet economic model, it has since shifted in favour of democratic socialism. Academics recognised the mixed economies of several Western European and Nordic countries as “democratic socialist”.[34][35] Following the revolutions of 1989, many of these countries moved away from socialism as a neoliberal consensus replaced the social democratic consensus in the advanced capitalist world.[36] In parallel, many former socialist politicians and political parties embraced “Third Way” politics, remaining committed to equality and welfare while abandoning public ownership and class-based politics.[37] Socialism experienced a resurgence in popularity in the 2010s.
Let’s look at Pol Pot, to go back to your whataboutism:
Ideologically a Maoist and a Khmer ethnonationalist…
Seriously, it’s on his goddamn wikipedia page, dude. This, what you’re doing here? It’s embarrassing. You think you’re standing up to those meany evil ‘left-wingers’ when in reality you’re a Toy Poodle for fascism, yapping at what you’re told to, always waiting for another head pat from your online friends that never quite comes, never quite seems to make you feel like you feel it should.
Conservative parties began because aristocrats felt they had lost too much power, and wanted into the parliamentary system. It’s oligarchs now. Is that really who has your best interest? Do you think Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk or Trump care about you? That they will ever do something for you, at the expense of themselves?
Because over on the socialist side we’re at the protests, we’re at the strikes, we’re demanding change, we’re helping the poor, we’re punching up at authority. You’re ideologically marching alongside cops, brown shirts, Nazi’s, and you what, think they’ll spare you? At best you’re meat for the grinder when the fighting starts.
Look into all of this. Really dive into what Conservatism is, why it was created, how it’s been opposed to every advancement in society that you enjoy: shorter work weeks, shorter work days, actual safety for workers, workers compensation, paternity leave, health care, freedom to strike, etc. All of those are socialist-won, often through literal bloodshed.
What have wealthy billionaires done to make your life better? Why do you think they’re so invested in keeping you angry at visible minorities, women, ‘the left’, the 2% of the planet who are transgendered, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community? Why is it your enemies are all exactly strong enough to scare you, yet so weak you can insult them for it? Why do you have to punch down to hit these terrifying enemies of whatever it is you hold dear?
Mao is a Maoist, and the CCP claim to be ‘the sole heir and successor to Joseph Stalin concerning the correct interpretation of Marxism–Leninism and the ideological leader of world communism,’ and I think (hope?) we can agree that Stalinism is not communism.
franchise /frăn′chīz″/ noun, plural franchises
(removed other meanings)
I’m not seeing how ‘a franchise ending’ is oxymoronic.
I feel like it’s awfully interesting though that we have ‘parallel discussions’ whenever someone says “hey this specific thing sucks for women.” The original question posited here was:
The question is why do men complain about female leads, which they do, when the majority of leads are still male, which they are. The answer to that isn’t “we need better male role models in movies” (though it would obviously help as well) as it’s dodging the original question.
