Probably not as things stand. Our political and judicial system is a little more robust against being abused by a small group of people than the USA’s. But I wouldn’t rule out Poilievre deciding he needs to break the rules like Trump does, and I don’t think we should give him the chance to find out how that goes.
Poilievre is a militant antisemite. Only an antisemite conflates Zionism with Judaism. You have to be a raging irredeemable bigot to intrinsically assign a certain ideology to an entire ethnic or religious group. You have to be the worst form of human scum to assume that someone, simply because of their ethnic heritage, is automatically associated with a foreign nation state. This is like blaming every Chinese Canadian or Chinese American for the actions of the Chinese government. This is literally the logic that lead to the US to the Japanese Internment camps of WW2. This logic says that your individuality means nothing. Your beliefs mean nothing. The sum total of your life means nothing. You are Jew. And all Jews are responsible for the actions of the government of the state of Israel. You, from the moment of your birth, are irreconcilably linked to the actions of a foreign nation. You can never really be a true American or Canadian citizen, you will always have some inherent loyalty to this foreign state.
Absolutely abominable and despicable. Anyone who holds these beliefs should do the world a favor and kill themselves. Absolute bigoted trash.
It will surely reflect well on PP when he and his racist Nazi party go down the toilet in 15 days from now.
PP may wish Canada were the 51st State - where he might otherwise get away with fascist impulses. But that’s not the case.
He has gone back up in the polls. We mustn’t get complacent. Everyone who doesn’t want fascism in Canada, and who values Canada’s continued existence as a country, needs to vote, and get your friends to vote, and make sure MAGA PP doesn’t get in.
Don’t count him out just yet. They’re posting pretty strong numbers. Make sure to organize and vote.

In order to support a friend of mine lives in this riding — she’s been braving Ottawa weather going door -to-door for Fanjoy, despite being in her 60s — I donated the max allowed to Fanjoy.
Ok fine. The “in support” is only half true, the other part is that I’m a petty dork who would take tremendous joy in being a small part in seeing PP lose his own seat.

I’m debating whether to donate to that riding campaign. The gap seems large. Should I or would the money be better spent on the overall campaign?
If you’re calculating best possible return on investment, nationally or in a more competitive riding would probably be the most useful. The national ads have been pretty high quality so far, such as the Mike Myers one, and many of the competitive ridings are ones that were completely unexpected and have few resources.
But also, life’s too short to always just be about the best return on investment. I was happy to help support my friend, she was absolutely tickled pink to be able to tell her fellow volunteers that she brought in a donor. And yes, because doing something petty can feel good too.
Too bad his pension is not tied to it as he’s gotten his golden goose early.
