I just got the email titled “Changes coming to your Pixel 6a”:
We’re writing to let you know that we’ve identified a problem with the battery in your Pixel 6a device, and have a plan to address it, which is detailed below. We understand this is inconvenient and have developed several support options for you to consider.
Software Update
A mandatory software update for your Pixel 6a will start rolling out July 8, 2025 which will enable important battery management features on certain 6a devices. This update will reduce your device’s battery capacity and charging performance in order to reduce the risk of potential battery overheating, which could pose a risk to users. Not all Pixel 6a devices will receive this update but your device will be impacted. This mandatory automatic software update, while present on your phone after the roll-out date, will only activate these new battery management features once your phone’s battery has completed 400 charge cycles. You will not see a change in your device’s battery capacity until that time. We will send you reminder notifications of the new battery management features when your device is at 375 and 400 charge cycles.
Support Options
More details related to this change are available here. We want our customers to have the best experience with their products, so we are making support options available to users based on your country of purchase, location and warranty status. Some customers may be eligible for battery replacement at no charge, depending upon location and availability. See if you are eligible for battery replacement at no charge or explore other support options by visiting our registration page.Eligibility criteria and other terms will apply. Thank you for being a Pixel customer. We’re working to get this issue resolved for you as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Pixel team
If its anything like my experience, you might as well just buy a new phone now. I opted for the battery replacement for my pixel 4a, and the place I took it to (one of the only places working with google to do the replacement) was super slammed because of all the pixel 4a replacements, and I’m willing to bet they didn’t properly glue the battery in place as a few weeks later I dropped it on my carpet from like 4 feet high. The screen didnt crack as I’m using a screen protector and a case, but the center of the screen had a line across it that wasn’t cracked glass, it was the actual LCD display damaged, right where the battery should be in the phone. I’m guess the battery was just hanging out loose in the phone, and dropping it was enough to slam the battery into the screen and damage the LCD. From there it spread purple and black dead pixels across the screen over the following 24 hours until the entire LCD was dead.
After all that hassle, new phone required anyway.
Damn. I’m sorry you had to experience that.
Looks like it’s a lose-lose-lose situation. Either risk a shoddy repair job, give away my private info to Payoneer to get the $100 or spend additional money and deal with the $150 Google Store coupon that does not combine with other offers.
I could get the 9a with the $150 off coupon and trade-in the 6a for an additional $80 back — it just sucks that I have to spend ~$300 for something that wasn’t my fault.
I think I’ll wait until the Pixel 10 comes out and decide what I want to do.
From the email I got: “It can be combined with other offers.”
Edit: I just tried it and the store says it can’t be combined with other offers. I’m confused.
Edit2: Now it did work. Getting more confused…
Regarding your edit2: Wait it worked??
Would you happen to have a screenshot of the price in the shopping cart with all the discounts?
It worked somehow, yeah. Somehow 3-4 different promos are active on my order at the same time
Battery Program and another discount on the case

6a trade-in with another bonus

Total
If the trade-in goes through, I’ll only pay 158€ for the 9a
Thanks for the images!
Dang that’s sweet.
