Summary

Egg prices are projected to rise by 41% in 2025, according to the USDA, following an already steep increase due to a severe bird flu outbreak that reduced egg-laying hen populations.

The current average price per dozen is nearly $5, with some areas seeing prices as high as $10. Restaurants like Waffle House and Denny’s have added surcharges.

Meanwhile, the USDA mistakenly fired key bird flu response workers, sparking criticism.

Trump stated his administration will take action but has offered no specifics.

But let’s be honest. 5$ for a dozen eggs is fucking nuts too. They were so much fucking cheaper not all that long ago

$5CAD is aboutt $3.50 USD. For jumbo eggs, i would call that aboit right. These are way larger than the “large” eggs most people are used to

Correct. But the eggs I bought were extra-extra-large. If I wanted to get just large or medium I would have paid around 4 or less.

Tofu scramble is pretty good. Firm or extra firm tofu block, slice and crumble into a bowl. 1 tbsp turmeric, 1 tbsp black pepper, 1 tbsp garlic powder, mix. Cook in a pan on medium stirring occasionally, will turn yellow as it heats up. Then add key ingredient black salt (kala namak, a salt with a strong sulfur flavor) to taste. Mix in with your pan fry mix of choice, I like onion/garlic/serrano/mushroom/smoked paprika/chili powder/spinach/tomato and green pepper/cilantro added at the end. Serve with fruit and toast.

USDA mistakenly fired key bird flu response workers

    No. No they didn’t.

They fired people to try to free money for more tax breaks for the top 1% with zero concern if these people were needed or useful.

The less eggs you can afford to buy increases the supply for the people who do not need to worry about the price of eggs.

They are enemies of the US, their goal is to weaken it, and we are under attack.

That said, they care about enriching themselves and their loyal buddies more than anything else.

“It’s easier to fool a man than to convince him he’d been fooled.” - Mark Twain

Look at how insanely difficult, if not impossible, our job is at educating these morons on how they’re being taken for a ride by conmen. The longer it goes on the more they’d have to admit they’re wrong about, which makes it even less likely they’ll realize it.

Being a useful idiot is really a sunk-cost fallacy on a life scale.

    That’s nice.

Last time I bought eggs I ended up throwing them away because I didn’t eat them. I forgot about them.

So ya I pretty much never eat eggs unless it’s a special occasion.

They could rise to $100 for all I care.

We got chickens when facing an egg crisis here in NZ. Lovely little animals. It’s been nice being able to look after and care for these creatures, knowing they are living the good life whilst consuming their eggs. Much more useful than my dumb dog.

Choosing egg prices as your campaign slogan during an H5 endemic was already a pretty bad move and then you topped it with tariffs lol

        Sure you can.

You just don’t want to because you’re addicted and entitled to food you think is tasty.

Eating is entertainment for you, not survival.

Edit: And you’ll get mad at anyone who calls it out :(

            So you’re admitting I’m correct.

It’s not about needs, it’s about wants and entitlement.

If you live only for needs and don’t look past the base tier of Maslow’s Hierarchy, that’s a miserable existence.

Oh you live in a climate controlled building with electricity? Existence is more about comfort to you than survival.

He was saying he couldn’t afford it though, which isn’t true.

He was trying to conflate his needs with his wants, then got mad at me when I called it out along with the rest of the cognitive dissonance crowd.

Funny how you guys immediately jump to “living completely without wants” when someone dares to suggest you don’t need meat!

Criticizing meat-eaters always puts into perspective how “smart” the average person is these days.

I’m not mad, I’m pointing out that the insinuation that eating food being purely a matter of survival without the consideration of enjoyment would not be very fulfilling.

If you make the argument that something as basic as consuming sustenance should not be enjoyed, anyone else could make the same argument about any of life’s enjoyments or comforts that you otherwise partake in.

It’s because eggs are one of the more universal food items. Their price sort of shows how well the economy is doing so it’s a nice gauge on that sort of thing.

I guess it was because the price of eggs was practically a campaigning slogan shared a lot around trump supporters.

Sure it is partially due to bird flu. They were going up because of Covid before that.

However, the man in charge who campaigned on reducing egg prices is now slashing the departments that keep these things in check and enacting tariffs on imports that may be needed for egg production. So, he does have responsibility for the prices even if it’s not directly.

So why did he act like it did? And all he has done is make the problem worse.

You know how many people still think the price of eggs are because of government over regulation?

That is why you gotta keep saying it. To try and finally get it through to those idiots that they are being lied to every single day.
