The first conservatives were literally monarchists, and nothing has changed since except maybe replacing ruling by “divine right” with “he who has the gold makes the rules.” The single defining criterion of conservatives is that their worldview is hierarchical and zero-sum. They are authoritarian followers who crave subjugation.
The bigotry is just a convenient way of defining the classes according to easily-visible characteristics.
