You know that it will be incompetently managed, with more of an emphasis on making sure lots of government war contracts go to those who have properly kissed his ass and paid bribes/kickbacks, rather than the safe and effective deployment of our troops.

I have a 25 year old son, and there is no way I’ll allow him to be dragged off by the government to die in a Trump War whose main objective is to destroy America for Putin, so Trump, Musk and their friends can loot America. There is no way my son will be joining a Trump military for any reason.

A draft is political suicide, nothing would get him off the white house faster. There’s a reason the wars against China and Russia have people from other countries slated to die.
A year ago most people would have said Project 2025 was “political suicide”. Halting 50 billion dollars in foreign aid by executive order would have been political suicide. Giving Elon Musk veto power over government spending would have been political suicide. Having people deported because their speech was offensive to the government would have been political suicide. Fuck, during his first term Trump was impeached for even threatening to cut foreign aid to Ukraine. Now he can cut military aid to Ukraine because Zelensky wasn’t grateful enough for it and nobody says a word.
No matter how bad you think the situation is, it’s worse. Because almost everyone in America underestimates how much power Trump has to do whatever the fuck he wants.
And look. Trump won big among young men. Trump won because he went on Joe Rogan and talked about how young men don’t have positive male role models anymore. Trump won because manosphere influencers like Andrew fucking Tate boosted Trump as a real man, who will bring that manliness back to America. Trump is popular because he sells a vision of tough American manhood. And nothing’s more manly than war.
If Trump wants a draft, Trump will sell it as making young men manly again, Rogan and the manfluencers will back him to the hilt, America’s conservative young men will line up to register, the Republican Party will praise him for making the tough choices, and nobody over 25 will care because they won’t be eligible for the draft anyway.
And then when the war starts, and our young men start dying, we won’t hear those stories back home. His very carefully chosen embedded reporters and selected journalists will give us a curated and sanitized version of the war - just like they did in Afghanistan and Iraq - with our brave boys winning tremendous victories, and our local allies doing all the dying, with just enough American dead to give us martyred to praise.
No, if Trump wants a war, Trump will have one. If Trump wants a draft, Trump will impose one. And the American people will back him every step of the way.

They have, in similar cases, acted as a transition between untenable authoritarianism, and democracy. I would trust our top officers over anyone in Trump’s cabinet (or even the Republican Congress at this point).
I’m well aware of the dangers of a military coup. I just don’t know how else this could ever be stopped.

I think Panama did say they’d destroy the canal before they’d allow it to be taken. I took a cursory look for that tidbit, but the news feeds about the canal are blown up at the moment.
If I had to wager a guess, destroying the canal wouldn’t stop a takeover. Rebuilding it would be a fraction of the price of the war.
And don’t try telling me that the cost of the war will be much higher than just the military occupation because of shipping costs going up from the canal being shut down, the cost of actually maintaining the place, riots, etc because the idiots who want this wouldn’t listen for long enough to think about that anyway.
The cost of rebuilding would be more than just the cost for materials and labor. They’d also have to deal with a generation of vengeful Panamanian guerillas killing the construction workers, sabotaging equipment, and sinking ships.

Exactly. He is the root cause of all of our issues. But going this route will cause a civil war - he still has many die hard supporters who are now unemployed and have too much time on their hands, not to mention the propaganda on social media… who will defend trump until everyone is dead. I can see some of his supporters stepping away if there is a draft. The upside, if there is a civil war Russia won’t be able to help Trump since they’ve been losing at their war for a few years.
