  • If you’re out there suggesting political stances can be adequately expressed along a single line, then you’re not doing much better I’m afraid. Engage with the nuance, friend, it’ll build understanding and be better for all of us.

‘Left’/‘Right’ need to go, they’re losing any meaning they once had - instead: “What’s your policy on X”? “How do you feel about Y?” “Do you agree with Z’s policy on A, B & C, and why?”.

Curiosity, followed by grounded opinion, over tribalism.

Now excuse me while I go and try to practice what I just preached 😅

  • I really want to self-host an AI system that will let me index markdown documents with a vector DB, then run natural language queries using some kind of RAG approach with a local LLM.

My use-case is pretty ‘vanilla’ in this space: Having a markdown software product knowledge base and wanting quick answers to questions like “How should screen X behave if I am not a registered user?”.

Closest I’ve found is LlamaIndex, but this is still more of a ‘foundation’ than a turn-key solution and right now I’m too time-poor to do the assembly required…

I realise I’m describing close-to-frontier tech, but anything more turn-key out there yet?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Judging by the language and behaviour we’ve seen so far; I doubt it’s at all sophisticated. ‘Might is right’ and the US should belittle and subjugate others because they can - it’s their right and furthermore their duty to the American people! In other words, he’s probably a straightforward imperialist.

I don’t know the guy though so if anyone can add nuance to that I’d be glad to understand better. If his true feelings are benevolent towards Europe and he’s ‘merely’ frustrated that they’re not pulling their weight militarily, then he’s got a ham-fisted and harmful way of showing it.

  • Weird hill to die on perhaps; but I’ll never forgive Microsoft for arbitrarily deciding not to support my Core i7 6700K 4Ghz CPU on Windows 11.

Simply because: I cannot find a single actual technical reason why it wouldn’t be compatible (yes, my mobo also has TPM). It’s even higher specced than many other ‘supported’ chips.

MS apparently just decided I hadn’t spent enough money lately. Well now I won’t - on your products - ever again, while this i7 will continue to run Win 10 for games and Linux for all else.
