  • Didn’t say I thought you thought I was racist. I said you just decided anyone I pointed out that may have been tired of ism cries was racist (and that was your statement).

Here’s a great real life example. Some of the worst coworkers I’ve had were DEI hires and they stayed on for 6 months of lost productivity because the company had to get every duck in a row because the expectation was that lawsuits would come. So I get 2x workload for someone we shouldn’t have hired and couldn’t fire. I’ve also had great coworkers who were hired regardless of race or other ism. I am not a fan of blanket statements that DEI just solves problems because it has actually affected my ability to keep work life balance drastically in the past. So when I say this, if your reaction is that I’m a racist/homophobe/etc. for expressing legitimate problems, then that reveals the same problem I’m pointing out. And if not, then maybe I need to reevaluate the sentiment that I have seen among people towards Democrats at the moment (which is, it isn’t worth having such discussions because they’ll just be called some ism despite legitimate experiences that should lead to a real problem solving discussion).

  • Republicans had headlines like this when Biden won. This is a bad look for democrats if they call foul the same way when they lose. There’s been lots of analysis on the difference in the polls and outcome. From my perspective, identity politics has created an atmosphere where having an opinion that is different from the allowed one gets you removed from sites or ostracized. In that same way it disincentivizes people to offer their real thoughts in polls. Say what you will, but I think the over-reach on trans and racism agendas (you’re x-phobic if you don’t completely validate what I personally think or project into you) meant that plenty of people decided to pick trump while quietly saying nothing or the opposite, since those topics are cancelable offenses in the public space.

I really hope this doesn’t go the route of conspiracy theories and not actually realizing that all the Dems need to do is focus on being stable and not playing identity politics at the legal level. I’m already stuck with trump for 4 years. I don’t need it for longer because they lean to hard on extremist points since they know they get a forever base from that.

  • It sounds like you maybe haven’t developed at all. Fees in store systems exist. That’s not the argument. Apple was actively forcing apps to use their pay system by searching for any apps that would say things like “you can pay on our website and save 30%” even and delisting them. The reason for that is that a 10 dollar patreon subscription had to cost 13 on apple apps because apple was refusing to allow patreon (who has built their own payment system) to use it.

And what do apps that use the apple store get from this payment system? They can’t monitor refunds well, can’t get analytics on their user bases from the Apple app, etc. This behavior is classic predatory apple. They are adding nothing to the payment system but requiring it for all purchases in any app on the iPhone so they can make a 30% mark up. And they are relying on someone like you to parrot back that they are a “closed” ecosystem. Closed in this context means intentionally lazy due to an abusable practice. They’ve just always gotten away with this because they’ve built a user base that doesn’t critical think. (I.e. intentionally shitty photos and text experience between Android and iOS. No migration tools to leave iCloud so that it’s harder to ever switch to a better product. Wearables can’t work with iPhones because text messages are deemed insecure despite that not being the case in every ecosystem, etc. etc ).

I’ll also add that apple isn’t really making this closed either. They are hamstringing apps but will strike sweetheart deals with any app that would be too big to make a problem out of this. (Think Amazon, Walmart, Netflix). So while I’m not a huge fan of epic games, at least this one CEO who could’ve struck a sweetheart deal, stood up and fought the entire fucked up practice that has stolen from smaller companies for over a decade.

I was curious to see if there were people who pointed out that there is truth in parents knowing kids better than they know themselves. It’s nice to see that it’s getting pointed out.

“My parents don’t understand me” is a classic coming of age sentiment that you realize later is not really unique or true. A lot of people pointed out that a bad parent can abuse the sentiment. Likewise, an abusive person looking to take advantage of a kid can also abuse this to isolate them from their parents. A good parent also knows to let the kid “rage against the machine” in safe ways since they aren’t at a point yet where they will realize life is far less exotic than they hope it is for them.
