From my limited experience with Obsidian, I still preferred Logseq actually. And the syncing is easily done by just storing the markdown files in a cloud folder. But yeah, it’s subjective for sure.

I’d say Logseq is better than any note-taking alternative that works in the same way. It’s a bit different to regular note-taking apps as it acts more as a knowledge database based on tags, than with a regular file-folder structure. Also I prefer Actual Budget to YNAB, as it’s starting to have even more features than YNAB and actually supports things like bank syncing for major parts of Europe that even YNAB doesn’t. And it’s free to host yourself or really cheap to host through PikaPods. But it’s hard to say “objectively” because in the end, a lot of it is subjective. If people are used to running one program, it’ll be hard to switch to another, even if it’s “objectively” better.

The largest issue with FOSS applications is that many contributors don’t have any UX/UI knowledge, which is a huge factor in why people choose one program over another. I’d argue GIMP is a mess compared to Photoshop, even if GIMP is able to do many, many things that Photoshop is able to.

I’d like to clarify that removing DRM does lie in a grey zone in many countries, including in the US due to some court rulings. In some countries the right to make a backup of your e-book might have priority over copyright law for example.

Interesting to see arrests still happening towards private trackers. I wonder how the Nordics fares nowadays when it comes to being the Mecca of filesharing, feels like the golden days have passed since long ago.

I’d recommend filming yourself (find something to put your phone up against if you don’t want to talk to people) and comparing to videos of proper form. Or post somewhere, e.g. here, and let people see whether the form is proper or not.

I used it for a bit on my e-reader but decided to switch away from it. It’s quite good either way.

Why is DRM necessary? In the EU, many countries mostly just use digital watermarking for their native language e-books bought from stores (e.g. Germany and the Nordics). We got the music industry to get rid of DRM on music files. I’d argue watermarking is enough to discourage people, and no matter the DRM or no DRM all books still find their way to shadow libraries. I agree, as Terence also argues, that this is a very non-intrusive DRM, but which still has many problems of… just being a DRM solution for one. The licensing fee to allow support for LCP is also absurd, and ranges from a few thousand USD to tens of thousands. There are therefore no FOSS apps capable of supporting the DRM, like KOReader or Librera. The solution in itself is not fully FOSS either.

And aren’t you annoyed by their arrogant tone and how they try to blame, guilt, and threaten their way forward?
