Not sure about the communities you’re visiting, the subreddits I seldom visit (because enshitification) have rather smart people.

Basically, the industry is not investing in new blood.
Yeah I think it makes sense out of an economic motivation. Often the code-quality of a junior is worse than that of an AI, and a senior has to review either, so they could just directly prompt the junior task into the AI.
The experience and skill to quickly grasp code and intention (and having a good initial idea where it should be going architecturally) is what is asked, which is obviously something that seniors are good at.
It’s kinda sad that our profession/art is slowly dying out because juniors are slowly replaced by AI.
but it can be a very helpful assistant.
can, but usually when stuff gets slightly more complex, being a fast typewriter is usually more efficient and results in better code.
I guess it really depends on the aspiration for code-quality, complexity (yes it’s good at generating boilerplate). If I don’t care about a one-time use script that is quickly written in a prompt I’ll use it.
Working on a big codebase, I don’t even get the idea to ask an AI, you just can’t feed enough context to the AI that it’s really able to generate meaningful code…
modular factory-like automated meal production line, not AI.
Define AI… LLMs are just a part of that.
It’s definitely better than say a year ago, but it’s always a new small issue. Like suspend is not working, or shutting the monitor off crashes the graphics stack etc.
I really hope they get their shit together and build a solid wayland support at some (not too distant) time. But the amount of issues is small enough for me that I’ve switched to it.
Probably should’ve been “installing and using nvidia drivers”.
I would say foremost: strong opinions and idealism (very much correlated to ASD and ADHD) E.g. about the fucked up state of centralized social media controlled by right-wing billionaires.
Always when I talk to other people I don’t suspect to be neurodivergent, they just don’t really care about it, convenience is the driving factor.
I mean, I think the count of neurodiverse people on lemmy is likely very high (for various reasons). And since it’s highly genetically correlated, likely also the grandparents.
it will work for 99,9% without any flaw
Unfortunately not anymore.
And it doesn’t help, that Mozilla is also slowly turning towards enshittification… (since they fired all servo devs…)
My fear is that, if lemmy gets too successful, that regarding bots the same fate may occur.
Yeah I’m actually slightly annoyed that while the first presidency we haven’t cooled that much and prepared ourselves to be less dependent on the US.
But I think now it’s pretty clear, "Trump"s USA is not something we (as europeans) can rely on anymore. Repeating the error twice should be more than enough to come to that conclusion, it was blatantly obvious that something like this could happen (seemingly not for a lot of americans, it’s almost comical to see something like “LeopardsAteMyFace”). Though I’m still a little bit surprised at what speed Trumps administration is able to disassemble the US…
If it ain’t broken
But it is…
I still have (or rather had) some screen-tearing somewhere. I very much have annihilated that issue with settings in X11 (though some application somewhere still has issues, be it the video player). And it just feels clunky non the less.
Although I’m currently not using Hyprland, it really feels nice to use, really flowy. I’m currently testing COSMIC (which is reasonably still in alpha, as I got issues with *** nvidia, like suspend sometimes hangs the computer).
That said, I think it’s still ok to wait until the whole ecosystem is well supported in wayland, and *** nvidia finally got their wayland shit together.
Yeah he’s a legend in CS… Muskrat just further rides himself into being the fool of centuries
Ughh I tried the gemini model and I’m not too happy with the code it came up with, there’s a lot of intrinsities and concepts that the model doesn’t grasp enough IMO. That said I’ll reevaluate this continuously converting large chunks of code often works ok…
