They keep sending me emails trying to get me to come back and I’m like “Unban my fucking account and I’ll think about it.”

My ban was for “Abusing the report system”

    ie: Using it at all

I tried to like Reddit but every time I tried posting something I thought was original or thoughtful it would get auto deleted by a bot for not including the right “flair” or some other stupid shit.

Showerthoughts was one I tried. I don’t remember specifics but I tried a couple times to post actual thoughts I had in the shower and they got insta-banned by a bot so I just gave up.

      original or thoughtful

That’s the problem, the powers that b have deemed it necessary that we only have 1 of 2 ideas.

Either you’re loyal to conservatives, or loyal to neo-liberals. Anything else is cause for a ban, and there will be no cavalry to defend you since you’re not loyal to either side.

Oh I did and even contacted moderators a few times to try to have posts reinstated after they were insta-banned by a bot. I just got tired of fighting with it every time I wanted to participate.

I came from TikTok to Reddit about 2 years ago and after some initial adjustments I found the experience quite liberating in comparison. But yeah there are a lot of rules that you only find out about by getting deleted or downvoted. Lemmy is quite literally the essence of what makes Reddit interesting without the weird bs so this is an overdue transition anyway (although I miss optional user flairs ngl).

Lemmy is just small enough at this point where mods don’t have to rely on automated tools and things like required flairs to effectively manage their community. As it develops, things like required flairs, verified submissions, etc will become more normal.

For example, I’m watching Wheel of Time, and /r/WoT requires you to flair every submission with a spoiler level (books only, show and book, show only, etc). Lemmy can’t really sustain good discussion on that yet, but when it does mods will need to start aggressively removing submissions if they’re not properly categorized.

I canceled my reddit pro, or reddit+ account, whatever the f*ck it is called, and the ads, the ads… Ads that look like posts, or comments. It’s almost making me 100% Lemmy too.

Lately I’m seeing a lot of this on old accounts

I had a few alt accounts from a decade ago that I’d sometimes used to get something from that site but over the past year the all got banned for no reason because I literally didn’t even post with them.

Im guessing that Reddit wants to get rid of those older users that still remember how great it was

Honestly that’s how I got here lol.

Tried it out when the API changes were announced, but let’s be real, Lemmy doesn’t have as much content or user interaction.

It’s allowed me to stop doom scrolling as much, but I do miss some niche communities

You get used to it. Been here happily for coming on two years. Honestly, less content means I can’t scroll 24/7 which has turned into a positive for me.

Fewer niche communities definitely sucks though. Time to start one I guess? :P

Less dumping ground and more release valve. The people Reddit is jettisoning are many of their more active and prodigious content creators and contributors. The site admins simply don’t want new human content anymore. They want passive observers who will consume advertisement content without creating drama.

Absolutely. I lost my 15 year account for using the phrase ‘burn it all down’ entirely metaphorically. They really, really didn’t like Canadians pushing back. Fuck those guys.

I hope Reddit dies in a fire, and not a metaphorical one. One with the ownership group literally aflame. And I’d like to roast marshmallows over that fire.

New to Lemmy and this is me to a T. Reddit just banned my 11+ year old account for expressing my anger at the continued fascist attacks on my country (Canada). So fuck em, I’m not going to bend over backwards trying to make an alt account they won’t flag, I’ll be sad for the Reddit of bygone days but it’s gone now, the new one is rotten to the core.

But why would I want to make a new account on Reddit after getting banned for saying things that people need to hear?

If Reddit wants some passive bullshit audience that can’t talk back, and that swallows bullshit posting, I’m good elsewhere.

I think it’s more like getting used to the freedoms of Lemmy increases the likelihood of popping up on the radar of some dubious Reddit admins.

Can we talk about how screwed up that streak notification is? Let’s encourage people who show signs of unhealthy usage of the platform to further their addiction?

You have a 300 day streak of using heroin, don’t stop now!

Daily usage streaks isn’t a “screwed up” notification.

Plenty of people read a newspaper everyday. Or check socials each day.

A more accurate measure for unhealthy, addictive usage would be hours per day, or week.
