Reminds me of the movie Court by Chaitanya Tamhane.
Reminds me of this pair of brothers who spent 8 years in county jail for civil contempt
Just read the thing. Damn! The level of unnecessary cruelty makes my blood boil.
to help visualize, that’s over 2 and a half years
sorry, i’m american, how long is that in dog years?
reminds me of The Trial by Kafka
Speedy and public trial my ass. Fuck this fascist country.
Look, they used to give black people speedy and public trials and everyone got all pissed. What do you people want?

It’s Mississippi and he’s black , they’ve always been like this.
Whats shocking is it was reported, the south suppresses journalism worse than Russia, it’s partly where the nazis learned it from.
Not worse than Russia, no. Out of curiosity do you have any recent examples of a story suppressed in Mississippi? Because I can name a few for Russia, such as the attacks on Kharkiv showing aerial images of the city from before the attack to mislead viewers in Russia into thinking they hadn’t just bombed the shit out of a major city.
As an aside: what a terrible website. Even loads the whole page and hides it behind a read more button, for no reason because it’s already loaded the content.
Might be a script or something. Use Firefox with Ublock and NoScript. I don’t see any button.
If you go into your settings for uBlock Origin, there’s an option to have it block js. Someone on Lemmy told me that recently and I stopped using NoScript after that since it became redundant
The read more button is just to track if you in fact want to read more
It’s already trivially easy to track scrolling. I think more nefarious than that. I think it’s so that they force “engagement” on their site, since clicking a button counts as a user action.
Scrolling is still less voluntary than clicking. It’s a good tactic to monitor engagement instead of just page views.
