If it’s a “smart TV”, it already scans the content you watch and phones home about it.
That’s why I don’t have one.
Newer Samsungs (at least 2019, maybe even older) have a microphone in the remote. It’s opt-in to give it that permission (you have to agree to a bunch of legalese), but it being Samsung, I just assume they’re listening anyway.

It’s like boiling a frog, now EU is already trying to do things which would be considered unbelievable dystopian shit in Russia, year 2008.
They got here by accepting smaller steps in the direction of unbelievable dystopian shit, because “what, are you a sovereign citizen”, “dura lex sed lex”, “we are not a libertarian institution and we need to catch criminals”, “we need to regulate society for a better future”, “our institutions and bureaucracy are built to prevent such erosion, we won’t go down that slippery slope”, yadda-yadda.
One thing people should realize is that common sense and dignity are above any law, no matter how correctly passed. Concentration camps in Nazi Germany and wherever else were perfectly legal. Those people will build in the future will be perfectly legal too. Hell, those they are building right now are legal and your government (any on the planet) doesn’t argue with that.
And not only that, but you don’t even have to argue against laws invading your freedom, they are simply negligible. You don’t have to prove that you don’t need something, “I don’t want this” is sufficient!

It was quite clear from the beginning that people don’t want this, but I’m afraid there is a certain constituency that didn’t care, still doesn’t care, and would really like to read all of your messages. So I’d say it’s optimistic to say the fight is over.
I’m afraid this can be similar to saturation of air defenses.
They haven’t passed this particular package (quite scary, yes), but what have they passed lately?

What would we see if we look not for threats to fight against, but for something that we have already missed?
The EU has some great ideas, and also some horribly bad ones

Much of what EU has implemented are great things that we do want, but it isn’t about what we want or dont want
I mean, what’s the problem with attached bottle caps? They’re pretty cool, and they don’t really get in the way.
From my point of view there are some that are ok and some that are terrible and get in the way no matter how you use them

Btw, remember the selector-skandal, where the selectors for which type of conversation the NSA can listen in on RIPE (europes biggest internet exchange point) were waay too broad. They still do that, the illegal act was made legal by Germany later on.
We need to have a law against using AI in enforcing the law.

I’d expect a fellow programmer to understand why these kinds of proposals are foolish.
And dangerous to all of us.
I’m mostly against downvoting without explanation, so here it is: expressing this sentiment in this community without a really solid explanation of why you think it would actually help seems like trolling.
The same kids who need a secure line of communication with authorities and aid workers and councilors and places to report the abuse and… you get the idea. Those kids would NOT have liked this at all.
Or like when Republicans in the US decided to start outing kids because they confided in a teacher. The right wing in the EU would be able to say “being gay or trans is a mental illness, for their own safety we are going to read their texts and put them in a mental hospital if they mention it to anyone”.
C’mon — you’re @programming.dev. You’re supposed to know why this is bad.
