  • I think the way forward is to have socialism provide all necessities for people - meal kits, utilities, shelter, transport, free gasoline, healthcare, and so forth that are designed to be boring but effective. Capitalism can be used to obtain luxuries - a wider variety of food, fancier cars, bigger houses, brazilian buttlifts, singing bass decorations, and so forth. Money is solely used for such things.

By doing it this way, people can choose to protest or strike without suffering too much from doing so. Work becomes optional, since survival is ensured. Combined with imposing floors and ceilings on wealth, we can promote democracy and socialism, without sacrificing the vitality of a healthy capitalism.

  • One reason why I want to have a house to myself: organization. I live with a hoarder and a slob, which means the kitchen counters get filled with random stuff, and the floor has tripping hazards. Plus the generally unsightly nature of just having stuff jumbled about. While I am not a clean freak by any means (DUST!), I would like to properly shelf things or to walk around without surprises.

There are some things you can’t really fight, one of them being wealthier relatives who own the shelter you reside in. So long as I am stuck in my current residence, I cannot have peace of mind beyond my room.

  • That is why AOC is there on the ticket. VPs exist to take over if the president kicks the bucket.

Bluntly, we need good people in office. While I definitely support reforms to force age and term limits on our politicians, that can only happen if good people are willing to change the system. The system is currently run by corrupt and fossilized politicians who won’t permit change. Getting good people into office is required for positive change.

This takes time, one where a Bernie-AOC presidency can enable. Bernie and AOC, unlike the likes of Pelosi, will allow younger and progressive people to take leadership roles throughout government. It will take at least 10 years to replace the old guard - a two term progressive presidency just isn’t enough for that sort of generational shift.

  • Actually, I think they are compatible…but in a VERY specific way. I believe that government should provide all basic necessities to people, such as food, shelter, healthcare, transport, gasoline, and so forth. Capitalism can be used for luxury items, such as fashionable clothing, bigger houses, flavored toothpaste, singing bass decorations, ect. In this way, money is used for lifestyle, rather than being a requirement for survival.

This effectively allows people to strike or protest at will, since the coercive power of government and corporations is much reduced. We get to keep the efficiency of capitalism, while keeping it from metastasizing into a cancer.

  • Yup. The great issue with capitalism, is that it wasn’t formally designed to enrich society as a whole. It merely is an upgraded iteration of feudalism. You can give a pig a top hat and monocle, but it is still a pig.

We will need a new Constitution, one built to acknowledge that Economics is power. The framers addressed politics and violence, but overlooked the fundamental impact that money has on society. Floors and ceilings on wealth should be implemented, so that the likes of Musk or Trump cannot exist.
